SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a woman who pleaded guilty to kidnapping Elizabeth Smart to spend 15 years in prison, with credit for about seven years she's already served.

What a nightmare for the Smart family. But what a heartwarming ending with the return of their daughter.

Regarding Barzee, no punishment could be too harsh for her.

2) So I never have to see his smarmy punk ass on TV with asshat John Walsh again.

This was federal, the state had given her 15 years in
a plea bargain.
It sounds like they may be consecutive as the state
has her spending 15 years in a state institution.

You make a good liberal. It’s never the criminal’s fault. Why, it’s the Dad’s fault because ... er ... oh, well ... It must be someone’s fault.

Just not the one who did it.

Yeah, I’ll give her credit for time served WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER.

Why would this predator EVER be released to do more harm to a child?

Execute the bitch. Outside of butchering and or killing a kid, what is worse than this?

It’s never the criminal’s fault...

If I brought homeless people to my home and my guns suddenly disappeared, who do you think I might suspect? And I would certainly own up to my own responsibility for letting them know I had guns. I know this in advance, so guess what?...I don't grab the first insane looking kook with a "Will work for food." sign off the streetcorner and ask him if he can fix a roof. "Oh, and by the way, this is my daughter, Elizabeth...." It doesn't even occur to asshat Ed Smarm that maybe one of the creeps he brought home might be the culprit in his daughter's disappearance. Gotta wait for his other daughter to remember it.

Agreed. But they don't typically wear robes, and aren't as likely to fall off your roof. And they might have insurance.

“Yeah, I’ll give her credit for time served WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER.”

Spot On! Someone who abducts someone elses child for the purposes of enslavement or sexual purposes, or is an accomplice to such crime should be taken off the streets forever or even executed. 15 years with time served is a joke.

Lock up Ed Smart, too.

He didn't suffer enough for his mistake? The torture of not knowing, the guilt, the anguish for 9 months, the money spent, the tormented lives, the unwanted publicity, the shame, the misery on his family ? Not enough for you, Numbnutz? Maybe 10 years hard labor ? Then you'd be happy, eh ? Like you never did anything negligent you regretted dearly...Oh, and he wasnt the criminal, monkeyhead.

I agree with you. I am amazed at what a poised positive productive and happy young woman Elizabeth became.

Too stupid to know it was a mistake. Wanna keep your kids from being kidnapped by mental cases, an obvious first step might be to not bring nutcases to your house.

I don't think that Ed was trying to save money; I thought that he considered it a religious obligation to assist the homeless.

I am shocked that the police didn't focus on this, immediately --- and didn't they ignore something that her younger sister, who witnessed the abduction, stated?
