Disobedient brats no martyrs for freedom (USA Flag shirt students)
CNN ^ | May 21, 2010 | Ruben Navarrette

Posted on 05/21/2010 12:52:46 PM PDT by Rebelbase

San Diego, California (CNN) — When five students at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California, taunted Latino students by wearing T-shirts bearing the American flag on Cinco de Mayo, even though administrators had told students beforehand not to wear flag clothing that day, they caused a ruckus, divided a community and reignited the culture wars.

Culture wars?

How about they just stop trying to destroy our culture and we’ll call the “culture wars” off.

When its someone on THEIR side being disobedient brats, they are heralded as martyrs for free speech.

This should have not been an issue in the first place, an American flag should never be banned in the first place, I don't care WHAT day it is, sheesh..

Somehow, I doubt the 4th of July is observed in Mexico. Or Canada, for that matter. I think I may be offended. /sarc/

Say, why don’t US schools observe Canada’s “Dominion Day?” ...since President O says we’re all one big happy North America.

My ephiphany came during the Florida 2000 recount. The scales fell from my eyes and I saw all Democrats, liberals, leftists, socialists, and progressives for what they are!

They are evil or stupid.

I can not be friends with anyone who is evil or so stupid as to support evil.

Reuben is a LIAR
If, as he says, the school Admin cautioned students to wear No Flag clothing on May5 why were there so many Mexicans wearing mexican flag gear?

This is the first time this lie has been floated. I guess the Principal forgot to mention that is all the interviews he gave following the incident

Rueben may think he is an American but all he is is an idiot

You see, conservatives usually don't give a hoot about whether students have the right to express, on school campuses, their opinion about this or that -- especially if doing so threatens to upset the social order. Now, suddenly, because of the Morgan Hill case, they've found religion and they're ready to side with the American Civil Liberties Union in defense of free speech rights for students? Talk about strange bedfellows.
I got a chance to see this hypocrisy up close last week when I appeared on CNN to discuss the Morgan Hill story with Kris Kobach, conservative legal analyst and law professor.

Obviously, this is leading up to the Big Reveal that Kobach sided against students' free-speech rights on some other ocassion.

(reading rest of article....)

(reading end of article....)

I seem to have missed out on the Big Reveal. Can somebody point it out to me?

I had the pleasure of meeting two of these boys the other night. They were attending an event I was at with their parents. They were very nicely dressed, and were extremely polite and well mannered. I think they are a bit overwhelmed by all the attention they are getting, but overall, they seem to be handling it well.

My response to this guy Ruben is: I agree that the school should have the right and ability to maintain order and safety in their school, but, wearing T-shirts with flags on them are not against the school rules any other day, so why couldn't the boys wear them on that day?

If somebody told our sons not to wear the flag on 5 May..they would have done the same thing. The school had no right to limit the patriotic expressions of it’s students.

In my experience, the liberal/conservative marriages start off fine. The couple just avoids politics altogether.

The fun starts when the kids come along. Same with Christian/Jewish couples. It’s all about mutual respect and tolerance until you have to decide which religion/beliefs to pick for the kids. Then it’s either a little of each, none at all, or divorce.

The majority of my family (Mom, Dad, aunts, uncles, etc) are all liberals. I just dropped a few of them from my friends list on FaceBook. One of my cousins (she was a teacher in CA for years) has a pictorial shrine to Che hanging on the wall in her hallway. I have nothing in common with any of them and avoid at all costs.

Dad’s ok. He doesn’t get into talking’ politics but my mom is another story....at least she was until she had a stroke 2-1/2 yrs ago. She and I got into a rip-roarin’ argument over the phone about 3 yrs ago.

Mr. Navarrette (Hispanic) was recently profiled by Hispanic magazine as one of thirty accomplished young people under thirty.

Mr. Navarrette lives in California's San Joaquin Valley where he is writing his next book, contributing regularly to the Los Angeles Times and other newspapers, and preparing to launch the political newsletter, Reconciliation , which addresses issues of concern to Latinos and the American community.

Um, Ruben, honey, what you published in your column is NOT what conservatives have been saying about this incident. You might want to actually pay attention to what we say instead of just making stuff up in your head.

Of course, liberals will only "debate" strawmen, because they can't debate a conservative.

WTF....??

Reuben is full of sh**!

The American Flag flies over that frickin' school on May the fifth, and every other day of the year. It's the flag that hangs in the administration office and the classrooms.

This is still the United States of America on May the fifth, and that is an American public school on American soil.

The American flag is not just any symbol, Reuben, -it is THE SYMBOL.

And conservatives have always believed that liberals and multiculturalists should be never be allowed to cast our Stars and Stripes as a symbol of "divisiveness".

Well, Reuben, you are finally displaying your true colors as a closet MeCHISTA.

I had no idea that there was a problem with civil disobedience. The left does not own it, even if they think they do. These petty commutards need some healthy, loud opposition. Perhaps they would better understand their historic uncivil disobedience. A Berkly style riot, complete with burning the administration offices, using foreign flags and presidential effigies for tinder all the while demanding press coverage, amnesty and equality. Just the image and the potential that it could catch on should cause strokes in the media.
