In what is developing into a standoff between states and the federal government that could be bigger than gun control or even health care, 17 states have launched versions of Arizona's immigration law, even as federal officials say they may not bother to process illegal aliens caught by the states.
William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, which has been trying to get officials to address the open southern border for years, warned the consequences could be dire.
"Over the last couple days, Obama and the chief of ICE have refused to honor their oaths of office," he said. "Their constitutional requirement is to enforce existing laws. "They've told the American public to go eat cake," he said. His organization is assembling the list of state efforts to emulate the Arizona law, which makes it illegal under state as well as federal law to be in the state without documentation.

I’m surprised that Va isn’t on that list! McDonnell will surely consider it.
And thanks to all those communities surrounding Austin, TX who have chosen to stand with Arizona against Austin's goofy "boycott".
Actually its things like this that democrats should look at and worry. It shows that there is a very strong undercurrent of dissatisfaction with liberal policies building even in blue states like my home state of Michigan.
Key word is *goofy* As a gropu, the city council/mayor couldn’t/can’t fill a pothole.
Gheen said the states where some form of immigration crackdown is under development include Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
Interesting list of both red and blue states. I wonder how many electoral votes those 17 states are worth.
I’m surprised that Arkansas is on the list. We have a bunch of Democrats running the state. I guess Blanche Lincoln’s close race is getting their attention!
Pennsylvania? All right!
I’m sooo jealous!
I just hope most of them actually follow through and pass the legislation.
Yes. This needs to happen. Once more states join in it makes it impossible to JUST bully one state. They still will but safety in numbers.
Let’s quit TALKING about it and DO it.

Thanks FRiend! Great stuff!
A week or so ago, someone on FR posted that there already is a law in California that does almost the same thing as the Arizona law, but that very few people know about it and they damn sure don’t enforce it. I know, I was asleep at the switch for not copying it and no, I’m not high on pot and did not dream this. It was here on FR. Will the poster please repost?
Proud to be in AZ.
If this groundswell is true, it's sure going to make it embarrassing for the White House to basically declare the whole United States as being a bunch of anti-American un-Constitutional assholes.
I wonder who is behind this in Michigan? Certainly not Granholm. My bet is Cox. Being an election year and all.
Don’t forget RACISTS!
MD is a joke. We’re the ones to give illegals a drivers license. Somebody’s got us wrong in that list.
Amen to that. I would guess the odds to be less then 50-50.
FIGHT BACK!!!
YES!!!!
We just need a few million more people to tell the Whitey House, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more!”
I’ll donate a dozen bricks....and transport them south, myself!!
Yup. And I’m damn proud of Gov. Brewer. She was hesitant to take this job after Napolitano skulked off into the darkness. Brewer is doing a better job than any of our elected governors, IMHO! Many don’t realize it but the first thing she did when she became governor was tell the SEIU thugs to take a hike and to leave Arizona state employees alone. Napolitano had turned the SEIU thugs loose on the employees shortly before sneaking off to ObamaLand.
I read about one of our state legislators pushing this several days ago. Cox will obviously back it but Moleface isn’t even sure there’s a difference between citizen and non citizen any more.
AR is not as “liberal” as some folks think. When it comes to immigration, the illegals have yet to become vocal.
For what it’s worth, as soon as I learned Seattle was boycotting AZ, I emailed the CofC, and the mayor and told them I would no longer be buying Strarbuck’s anything, and I would make sure my friends knew my feelings. I think I also need to email Starbuck’s!! LOL!
I’m waiting to see when WA will begin to whine about “tourism.”

Boycott Backlash: Some stay out of city
Growing number vow not to do business in Austin
The boycott apparently is already being felt according to the Austin Hotel and Lodging Association who sent KXAN this statement:
The AHLA is not a political association and does not in any way support travel boycotts of any kind. Hotels in Austin are now beginning to experience concrete evidence from the many visitors now canceling their leisure or business plans to Austin.
The states need to take the federal government to court and have a judge force them to take the illegal they capture.
This is exactly what the W.H, liberals and the MSM feared, and why they so wanted this not to happen!!
America is growing a backbone, state by state!!
Good for U.S., at long last!!
Not the poster you’re looking for, but you may find what you want here:

Heh heh heh. Thank you for standing with Arizona! We’re taking a lot of arrows right now but we’re holding our own so far and are returning fire.
Yeah but our governor will never let Texas do something similar. Sad, I have to vote for the guy because his opponent is such a twerp.
Farmers Branch, a suburb of the Metromess, was trying to get a law that landlords can’t rent to illegals. If they did that where I live, Garland, the population would halve.
I hear you. My state (or at least the one I live in now), Rhode Island, is also on the list.
Next up: Pigs fly!
p.s. I was born and raised in Arizona, and I am very proud of my home state.
Alabama is too corrupt to be on this list. :*(
The democrats are the anti-American and un-Constituional assholes!
It is the Conservatives who are standing up for America, as these damn democrats tear it down.
Mark Levin said it best. Right versus left IS right versus wrong!!!
My grandson was born at Davis-Monthan AFB, and is currently serving in the “theater of war.”
AZ is my second home and LOTS of my relatives live there, still. I’m behind you 100%!
I’m doing what I can, in my own small way, to spread the news that AZ is AWESOME! Wish I had some ammo for you!!
(Is Arpaio going to run for Gov? Awesome man, that!)
I counted 199 electoral votes for those 17 states plus 10 from AZ. This was using a map for 2012, 270 total votes.
They have proven time and again since the mid-1850s that it is their intention to destroy the country, even if it takes aligning themselves with our enemies to do so.
Yeah but our governor will never let Texas do something similar. Sad, I have to vote for the guy because his opponent is such a twerp.
This article is somewhat misleading about Texas at this stage of the process. There are a couple of state legislators that have indicated that they will file bills when the legislature meets in Jan. 2011. We need to hold the state house this coming election to keep the dems from gaining control of it. Currently the gop has a 77-73 margin but has been losing ground each election. The senate is safe at this time. Also we need to keep control of both houses as we have redistricting coming up and for sure we don’t need the dems in control. Let them run to NM and OK like that did last time.
Joe does that governor thing every time the job comes up. He’s a lawman. He just likes to stir the pot about running for governor. Especially when he can get the liberals all riled up. His two favorite hobbies are being a lawman and enforcing the laws. The second is driving the commie libs crazy. The guy is something else. If the left wants to read a “compelling life story”, they need to read his book, “America’s Toughest Sheriff”. Joe has been “around the block” a number of times. He’s had more people after his head than “Jeremiah Johnson”. Many of his escapades are hilarious. Especially going after the drug guys in Turkey.
Del. McDonough introduced it. I was certaintly surprised by this. I guess he’s a little worried about November.
Maryland: Governor OMalley Signs Self-Defense Reform Bill! (Castle Doctrine!)

Is that true? Just trying to get the facts straight. Thanks. mirse
I would trust Joe in whatever job he wanted to do, and back him in whatever “frivolity” he chose to inflict upon the liberals.
He’s a man’s man, but he also appeals to those of us who aren’t quite so masculine. ;o]
If I have to, I’ll come back to AZ long enough to be eligible to vote him into any office he aspires to!! LOL!
I’ll have to look for his book. I’m sure I will enjoy it immensely!
Guess which state has this law. Hint; It isnt Arizona (a) Every law enforcement agency in (State Name) shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following: (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status. (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States. (3) Notify the Attorney General of {State Name} and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity. (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited. Give up? This is section 834 of the code of CALIFORNIA http://law.onecle.com/california/penal/834b.html
