Israel Arms May Not Be Enough To Stop Iran's Nukes
The Washington Times ^ | May 24, 2010 | By Rowan Scarborough

As the Obama adminstation continues to pursue a diplomatic solution for Iran's nuclear weapons program, Israel in recent years has extended the range of its bombers, launched sophisticated spy satellites and developed a more accurate ordnance-dropping system.

The reasons are clear: Israel is now in a position to send scores of F-16Is and F-15Is on the 1,000-mile penetration of Iranian airspace to try to disable the regime's far-flung network of nuclear research and uranium-enrichment facilities.

But a U.S. air-war planner in the Persian Gulf War tells The Washington Times he does not think Israel's relatively small air force - compared with the United States huge bomber and cruise-missile fleet has the firepower to properly hit all the necessary Iranian targets.

The only real way to stop Iran's atomic bomb, said retired Air Force Col. John Warden, is for the U.S. to shut down Iran's electric generation for the foreseeable future - a strategy not currently on the Pentagon's table.

Israel *can* completely destroy Iran's nukes. The question is...does she have the courage? And,yes,it *would* take *enormous* courage to do what has to be done.

My next thought was “But God’s arms are,” and then imagined the bombing of the facilities. Is Iran on sand or stone? Are the facilities underground?

Fennie, Israel and Iran are mutually beyond each other's effective combat range at the moment.

The bullshiite coming out of Iran is cover while they develop atomic weapons and delivery vehicles for them. Israel can only plan to retaliate, or strike preemptively, in the same way.

There is no military way, even with atomic missiles, to completely neutralize Iran's war machine quickly. Iran is larger in size than Western Europe. One-half mile below extensive mountain ranges, where much of its nuclear potential most likely lies, might well be at least 10% (or more) unreachable. Unfortunately, there will come a time when even that 10%, or 1%, can wipe out Israel, which is about the size of Connecticut. A preemptive strike which is 98% effective is of little use to Israel in such circumstances.

The Shiite cult welcomes Armageddon. When the world is totally burned away, including all living Shiites, Allah will then have the opportunity to re-create the perfect human (i.e., Shiite). All the dead Shiites will be in Paradise, with the bad Muslims (non-Shiites) and infidels, as their slaves for all eternity.

Shiites pray for the destruction of the Earth.

Gotta fire up the Jericho II and IIIs with neutron MIRVs to do the job IMHO.

I think the best way for the Israelis to go after Iran’s nuke program is to smuggle a small, dirty device into one of the production or research facilities. The explosion would bring doubt upon the Iranian’s competence and would provide plausible deniability while killing a number of research/production personnel.

In the long run, I think Israel wants Persia as an ally again. The current crop of mullahs may not be able to overturn 2500 years of history.

A friend of mine always tells Persians, “If it were not for Cyrus the Great, there would not be an Israel”.

Bingo. Israel is capable of putting boots on the ground, and filling those boots with native Farsi-speakers. It’s going to get weird out there.
