The House Divided (How long can a people remain a People when its leaders side with its foes?)
National Review ^ | 05/24/2010 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 05/24/2010 7:20:45 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Bill Bennett and Seth Leibsohn don’t mince words on NRO: “Allowing the running down of a part of the United States by the head of a foreign government, at the White House, standing next to the president — who not only didn’t challenge him, but encouraged him — is a foreign- and domestic-policy catastrophe.” I couldn’t agree more with them, or with Mona Charen and Michelle Malkin, who’ve written forcefully about the absurdity of entertaining commentary on our immigration enforcement (or lack of same) from Mexico. That would be the same Mexico that enforces its immigration laws with the very “intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse” of which its president, Felipe Calderón, falsely accuses Arizona.

It is sadly noteworthy, though, that Bill and Seth wrote their essay before Calderón’s appearance Thursday before a joint session of Congress. It was at that latter event, with Vice President Biden and Speaker Pelosi presiding, and with President Obama’s cabinet front and center, that the most breathtaking display took place. I refer not to the tongue-lashing from Calderón, but to the standing ovation from nearly two-thirds of the People’s representatives and from the assembled administration officials. The ovation was for a brazen attack on the People.

Make no mistake: In the Congress of the United States on Thursday, it was a hostile Mexico against a besieged Arizona. Mexico won in a rout.

I was talking to a friend the other day, trying to explain my melancholy over the country. Conversations like that tend to get a bit self-absorbed, but indulge me for a second. I said I couldn’t think of a better example than myself for relating the problem no one wants to face up to. A number of years ago, at some risk to myself and my family, I prosecuted savage jihadists who had made themselves enemies of the United States. I was lauded for doing so by the Clinton administration. Though I disagreed with that administration philosophically, and particularly with its conception of international terrorism as a crime problem, I praised the much-needed overhaul by which it put teeth in our counterterrorism laws. Our disagreement was over the best way to protect the country, not over the imperative that the country be protected. Our debate was the traditional Right-Left debate.

Moreover, as a New York lawyer who made no secret of having conservative views, I was a decided minority, even among my fellow prosecutors. But that only mattered in the occasional, friendly joust over a beer. Day to day, our politics had nothing to do with how we went about our jobs. At the office, I had friends across the ideological spectrum. Most of them were from the political left, but we liked and respected one another. The bond we shared, the sense that we were doing something good for the nation we all loved, was stronger than any ideological divisions.

Why does that matter now? Because, for the first time in our history, we have a president who would be much more comfortable sitting in a room with Bill Ayers than sitting in a room with me. We have a governing class that is too often comfortable with anti-American radicals, with rogue and dysfunctional governments that blame America for their problems, and with Muslim Brotherhood ideologues who abhor individual liberty, capitalism, freedom of conscience, and, in general, Western enlightenment. To this president and his government, I am the problem. Americans who champion life, liberty, and limited government are not just the loyal opposition; they are deemed potential terrorists, and are derided with considerably more intensity than the actual terrorists. Arizona — for criminalizing criminal activity, for defending its sovereignty and protecting its citizens’ lives and property — is slandered as a human-rights violator.

And here is the excruciating part: As the Calderón spectacle demonstrates, these sentiments are not fringe sentiments.

To be sure, they are not held by the majority. To be elected, candidate Obama had to run as a post-partisan moderate, a pragmatic centrist who would not be constrained by ideology. Two camps well knew that this was nonsense: those few of us on the right who bothered to study Obama’s record, and those on the Alinskyite left who understood the campaign to be merely a charade necessary to grab the reins of power.

It was the second camp we saw standing and cheering for Calderón in Congress on Thursday. They used him as a vehicle to condemn Arizona.

This second camp, Obama’s transformative Left, had the numbers to give a thunderous ovation in the People’s House because a lot of people agree with them. If I had to guess — after its two generations of marching through our institutions, controlling the academy, and scripting the legacy media — I’d put it at one in five, or maybe even four, Americans. That’s enough to form a country the size of France or Germany.

Whatever that country may be, it is not America as we know it. Quite the opposite: Its purpose is to remake America, to render it unrecognizable to those who love America as she is, or has been. To that frightening new country, the rest of us are Arizona. We are here to be jeered and loathed. We are necessary only to pay for the unsustainable Change.

That, however, is not supposed to be the social contract, not for most of us. We don’t aspire to be citizens of the world. America suits us just fine. Arizona suits us just fine. And while the Alinskyites know they need us to underwrite their utopia, we will eventually figure out that we don’t need them to govern — and bankrupt — us.

A nation is a big, bumptious thing. It needn’t agree on everything. It can even bitterly disagree on major things. But to be a nation, a People, it has to agree that it has a shared destiny: that its unique culture, core principles, and independence are worth preserving, protecting, and defending.

I didn’t see a shared destiny during those moments in the People’s House Thursday. I saw Democrats cheering for Mexico’s attack on Arizona. It was a catastrophe.

Not that the Civil War was foe verus the US, but it was two sides of the country with Lincoln as President taking a side and that resulted in war. There were ways to have resolved the issues of the day but one side found itself disadvantaged by having the President against it.

Presidents represent ALL the people and not special interest groups, especially racist ones as Obama supports. Anytime the Preisent takes sides the result will always be civil war.

This is what happens when a hate-filled anti-American goon is elected by George Soros and his marxists allies. The Barking Obama and George are enemies of America and they have the reins of power.

Obama is an enemy of the America we want. He does his utmost to destroy American values, economy, defense, and power. He must be impeached as soon as we get a Republican House of Representatives.

The author, Andrew McCarthy was the lawyer who successfully prosecuted the Sheik who masterminded the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 (together with his cohorts).

He's in danger not only from terrorists who want revenge, but also from the left.

PRES TEDDY ROOSEVELT: "There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag....... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

2008 McCains' Hispanic Outreach Coordinator, Juan Hernandez, Fort Worth, a dual citizen of the US and Mexico, and past member of Vicente Fox’s Mexican government, is as open borders as you can get.

McCain said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. Hernandez actually served as a cabinet member in the Mexican Government. McC sucked up to amnesty-pusher Hernandez (as Americans woke up to 5 million toxic mortgages fraudulently doled out to illegals that poisoned our economy forever).

McCain's Hispanic outreach director Juan Hernandez stated on national television that he is for the North American Union, and the “Amero” to replace the dollar within 10 years or so.

Hernandez believes all illegal Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." Hernandez' book urges illegal alien invaders to become settlers in the USA for Reconquista---the Mexican plan to take back the SW.

========================================

Hernandez actually served as a cabinet member in the Mexican Government. Juan Hernandez was born in Dallas and decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last verifiable job was serving in Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as Vicente Fox's "American Reconquista Director." Hernandez then worked for Bush hater George Soros' international foundations---(one such foundation published Hernendez's book that taunts Americans).

Michele Malkin article April 29, 2010-----Mexican Dual citizen Juan Hernandez, Fort Worth, has put together Conservatives for Comprehensive Immigration Reform ...... described as a “loose coalition” of conservatives started about a year ago to have a private conversation about immigration reform.

Conservatives for CIR is going public. A number of evangelical and business leaders were on a conference call, including former Bush 43 Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was supposed to be on the call, but he had a conflict.

Calderon is intent on (1) his Azatlan ambitions to undermine US national security by grabbing US Territory, and, (2) foreign aid extortion.

THE FOREIGN AID SCAM. Make Americans feel guilty....so that the billions of tax dollars to Mexico can begin (Calderon will be living like the Sultan of brunei---mayme Mrs Calderon can get a new dress rather than that recycled rag she wore to the WH.

Get set to watch Obama extort US taxpayers for billions to bail out poverty-stricken Mexico----using our tax dollars to buy illegals' votes for endangered Dems.

========================================

EDITORIAL The Mexico model What, Washington doesn’t have enough two-faced politicians, so it needs to import some? In the capital for a state visit last week, Mexican President Felipe Calderon repeatedly teed off on the new Arizona law that makes illegal immigration a state crime and requires aliens to show documentation should a cop request it. At a Rose Garden press conference, Calderon moaned that many immigrants “still live in the shadows, and at times, like in Arizona, face discrimination.” Addressing Congress, he said the law “introduces a terrible idea using racial profiling as a basis for law enforcement.”

Then Calderon went on CNN. Asked Wolf Blitzer: “If people want to come [into Mexico] from Guatemala or Honduras or El Salvador or Nicaragua, they can just walk in?” “No,” responded Calderon. “They need to fulfill a form. They need to establish their right name. We analyze if they [don’t have] a criminal [record].” “Do Mexican police go around asking for papers of people they suspect are illegal immigrants?” asked Blitzer. “Of course,” said Calderon. “If somebody sneaks in from Nicaragua or some other country in Central America,” continued Blitzer, “they wind up in Mexico, they can go get a job?” “No, no,” Calderon replied. “If somebody [does] that without permission, we send back — we send them back.”

Wow. Too bad he wasn’t so candid with Congress. Not that he’s wrong on the merits. If national boundaries are to have anything beyond notional meaning, they must be enforced. The federal government refuses to do this — hence the Arizona law. At week’s end, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was backing up the head of the Immigration and Customs Service — who said that he might not deport illegals detained under that statute. “ICE has the legal discretion to accept or not to accept persons delivered to it by non-federal personnel,” said Napolitano. “It also has the discretion to deport or not to deport.” Mexico has similar discretion, obviously — but it isn’t nearly so squeamish about enforcing its laws. It’s called self-respect, and it’s sadly lacking in the Obama administration immigration policy.

=======================================

REFERENCE Mexican President Felipe Calderon can hardly contain his revulsion and rage against Arizona’s SB 1070. He’s "deeply troubled" over a law he denounces as "discriminatory and racist," not to mention “a dire threat to the whole Hispanic-American population." This new Arizona law "opens the door to intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement," sputters the Mexican President.

Indeed, this “threat to Hispanics” and these “abuses in law enforcement," have been ongoing for years. AP reported that Maria Elena Gonzalez said female migrants were “forced to strip by abusive male Mexican police officers, supposedly to search them, but the purpose was to sexually abuse them." Jose Ramos, 18, reported “that extortion by Mexican border police occurs at every stop on their migratory route. Until migrants are left penniless and begging for food.”

According to AP: “Others said they had seen migrants beaten to death by Mexican police, their bodies left near the railway tracks to make it look as if they had fallen from a train. "If you're carrying any money, the Mexican police take it from you," said Carlos Lopez. "Federal, state, local Mexican police--all of them shake you down. If you're on a bus, Mexican police pull you off and search your pockets, and if you have any money, the Mexican police keep it all and say, get out of here.” Mexican Police shake down motorists on bogus traffic stops so regularly it is like going through a toll - money paid right there on the spot or your car gets impounded.

All of the above “hate” and “abuses in law enforcement” as reported by the Associated Press, befell Central American migrants who enter Mexico. (Excerpt) Read more at townhall.com

To me, the scary part of all this is that the Republican Party has no intentions of questioning Obama’s right to the Office of President.

IMO, they are as solidly behind this collapse of America as the Democrats are because of their inaction to verify the facts about Obama.

Let us pray:

Psalm109:8

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

Can I get an amen to that?

“It has occurred to me for some time now that the nation is headed for a split. The world views of the left and right are irreconcilable. The question is when will this occur and will it be done through violence or will the two sides be willing to say adios and go their own way.”

The left has a pathological need to dominate and control. When in power, they will not even allow diversity of thought or verbal opposition. In this way they are much like Islamists. A separation will not be done peacefully. The left will try to use force to secure their world view and a separate, free, new United States would be like Jews to the Muslim terrorists.
