WINFIELD, Mo. - Mexican drug smugglers are increasingly peddling a form of ultra-potent heroin that sells for as little as $10 a bag and is so pure it can kill unsuspecting users instantly, sometimes before they even remove the syringe from their veins.
An Associated Press review of drug overdose data shows that so-called "black tar" heroin — named for its dark, gooey consistency — and other forms of the drug are contributing to a spike in overdose deaths across the nation and attracting a new generation of users who are caught off guard by its potency.
"We found people who snorted it lying face-down with the straw lying next to them," said Patrick O'Neil, coroner in suburban Chicago's Will County, where annual heroin deaths have nearly tripled — from 10 to 29 — since 2006. "It's so potent that we occasionally find the needle in the arm at the death scene."

This stuff is so strong it kills and right now Dopers all over the country are trying to buy it.
If you believe this stuff being so potent it kills will stop Dopers from looking for it you are wrong. They are looking all over or it so they buy it cheap and cut it to suit themselves. They arent worried about their lives, only their habit.

Does that include me? If only we offered this stuff for free, we could solve the drug problem in a week. Permanently.

The recidivism rate of heroin addiction is so high. They can either go on and on until they OD (almost guaranteed), contract AIDS, hepatitis, etc. or go quickly this route. I’d say this route is more expedient.
Sure. Mexican heroin dealers are known for giving their customers 100% pure product, instead of stepping on it heavily so they can make five times the money.
If this stuff is killing customers, it isn’t because it’s “pure,” it’s because they cut it with something lethal.
You’d think even the AP would have an editor who could figure that out.

If by "Drug Warriors" you mean me and by "the correct people" you mean druggies, I can't really argue with you.
I've seen a couple of people turn their lives around, but most of the ones even in Narcotics Anonymous (I dated one and met many of his post-use friends) still have the same street values and attitudes.
My main sorrow is for the families, and I don't know whether it would be more painful for them to see the utter degradation of their loved one before death, or an early death when they still had hope (usually false, unfortunately) that the person could turn around.
They probably won't be getting off the lazy-boy/couch/chair/floor...to drive.
Reality........It's real.
