Deval Patrick Says GOP Opposition to Obama ‘Almost Seditious’
Nat Review ^ | 5/24/10 | Dan Foster

Posted on 05/24/2010 3:57:24 PM PDT by pissant

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, speaking at a law school forum, said that GOP opposition to the Obama program “is almost at the level of sedition.”

Patrick later said the phrase was a mere “rhetorical flourish,” but this isn't the first — or the fifth — time a prominent liberal politico has accused conservatives of approaching sedition in opposing Obama administration policies. See, the “almost” part is key, because then it isn't offensive, right?

I wonder when the governor and the rest on the left will figure out that this country's now mostly-defunct sedition laws were used to harass Thomas Jefferson and the Reds, and little else.

UPDATE: I should have said Thomas Jefferson, the Reds, and anybody Woodrow Wilson didn't like. Liberal fascism.

There was a crooked man and he had a crooked smile,
His crooked bunch of crooks were more crooked by a mile.
He bought the crooked Senate and he bought the crooked House,
And they all lived together with his little crooked spouse.

Sedition? The illegal alien usurper is lucky he hasn't caused a revolution yet.

It's not for lack of trying.

Obama, during his private pep talk to Democrats, ... asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.” - Nov. 7, 2009

A President who mocks and taunts Americans, who incites his followers to be confrontational, is troublesome.

Hum, it seems that only a year and a half ago dissention was the highest form of patriotism. My how the times have changed.

I think Obumble’s coronation has actually done this country a world of good.

I totally agree. It's "do or die" time.

Apparently fighting against sedition is now seditious. Liberals sure are big on changing the meaning of words.

The Hiding Place was on TV Saturday night. I had never seen it before. Early in the movie, young Dutch "patriots" (Netherlands 1940) were taking things out of a mans shop and breaking them in front of him. A cop, who called them Dutch patriots said he had said derogatory comments about the Germans.

All I could think of was that we are well on are way to that here.

History is repeating.

That is truly a “silver lining” approach! Can't say that I disagree either.

I've heard seditious or sedition from the liberals just often enough to wonder what kind of groundwork they are laying.

We're awake. We're pushing back. But, they are not finished. It would be irresponsible to believe we're out of the woods and as you said, I hope we weren't too late.

Is sedition illegal? It has been a couple of time (1790s and 1910s) but was repealed before being challenged in court in both of those cases.

I can see issues with some criticism at times of war (the reason for the 1910s law which I would not support) but other than that it seems like the aim is to declare some critical speech (e.g. anti-Bush) freer than other critical speech (anti-Obama).

One reason for the “free speech” part of the first is to make it ok to criticize those in power.

I think Obumble’s coronation has actually done this country a world of good. By getting the sheeple of America to wake the hell up...

I think things are more serious than that. The following is not my quote, but I believe it sums up how far we have fallen.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president"

“Democrats are turning against him also...”

Not the Democrats I know. They are
hard-core Democrats who would never think of voting
non-Democrat and they love when Democrats behave like the thugs that they are; it makes them think they’re “fighting” for them against the evil capitalists.

What a bunch of effing maroons. (Forgive the language.)

IMHO

Obama’s violating his oath to uphold the Constitution is not almost seditious, it is clearly treasonous. Turning the USA into a communist totalitarian states is Treason.
