Gingrich endorses Meg Whitman for governor
The San Jose Mercury News ^ | 05/25/2010 | Ken McLaughlin

When Carly Fiorina launched her campaign for U.S. Senate late last year, she wanted little to do with Sarah Palin. "I've never met her," Fiorina replied when asked about the former Alaska governor's leadership skills. "Next question."

And Meg Whitman, the front-running GOP candidate for California governor, probably wasn't planning to ask Dick Cheney or Newt Gingrich to endorse her when she launched her ubiquitous ad campaign last fall.

But as the races for governor and senator go down to the wire before the June 8 primary, big name Republicans are jumping into the fray with endorsements — 11th-hour nods that may offer big boosts now but carry serious risks in the fall, when the primary winners face the general electorate in a solidly blue state.

Palin endorsed Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, on May 6. Former Vice President Cheney endorsed Whitman 10 days later. And former House Speaker Gingrich endorses the eBay billionaire in an op-ed piece in the Mercury News today, calling her "a transformational leader for California."

He has a heck of a nerve endorsing anybody following the Dede Scozzafava debacle.

Snewt is full of it.Dims are not the only tone-deaf doofuses out there.

Newt... you know, many of us are equally disgusted with business-as-usual Rs as we are of Ds. Both had to contribute to the mess that ultimately landed of us.

Meg, clearly part of the criminal establishment, doesn't stand a chance with me.
Newt does need to get a clue.

And now he is out there peddling his new book on conservativfe radio and NONE of the hosts are asking him that exact question.

He’s obviously endorsing her because he sees her as CA’s next governor, and he has ambitions to run for the White House in 2012. This gives him an “in” with the CA governor and whatever logistical help that can provide him in a primary election run. Personal ambition over country.

So which will be the kiss-of-death for her; Gingrich’s endorsement or the ads she’s been running with Mitt “Trust me I’m a doctor” Romney?

Newt’s best chance with the base is to stick to books and keep his trap shut.

Great title to his new book. Too bad every time he opens his yap the title changes to “Going RINO.”

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I do think Newt would be revealing himself to be a first class idiot if he were thinking along these lines.

Since President Reagan, I don’t remember any Republican Presidential Contender spending more than a few hours in California, campaigning for victory.

Each Republican contender flies into the state, makes a couple of cameo appearances, then attends a $20 to $25k per plate dinner, and escapes before they’re caught absconding with our funds to spend in 49 other states.

So what good is Whitman going to do Newt? He won’t be coming to California for more than a few hours. He won’t even be trying to win the state. He could have gone to dinner and not have had to buy her a meal.

Newt, put that brain of yours back in your pocket, and try not to sit on it again.

There really isn’t much to choose from for governor. Whitman versus Poizner? I’ll go GOP in the general election but in the meantime, what? I can do lesser of evil, or in this case lesser of lame, but I can’t figure out which is the less lame.

I’m leaning toward writing in my own name on this one.

I agree there is not much to chose from in the Ca. Governors race. I have already filled out my mail in ballot and chose Meg. I also voted for Devore in the Senate race.

What’s your name? I’ll write it in as well!
But seriously, agree there is NOTHING good to choose from on this ballot.

And even if there were, and of course I will hold my nose and vote GOP in Nov., it would not matter. The leftists who totally domninate this state will not hear of another “Republican” at the helm. I know, I know, Ahhnold wasn’t much of a Republican, but there is no way that another “R” will win this November’s election.
