Will BP Oil Spill Feed Go Dark Tomorrow During "Top Kill"?
cbs ^ | May 25, 2010 | Bob Fuss

Oil company BP may shut off the live feed to Congress and the Internet of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow during its next attempt to seal the oil leak.

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), one of several legislators who forced BP to make the video feed public, said today that BP informed him the feed would be cut off when they try their "top kill" effort to stop the flow of oil. Markey called the move "outrageous."

"This BP blackout will obscure a vital moment in this disaster," Markey said in a statement. "After more than a month of spewing oil into the Gulf of Mexico, BP is essentially saying to the American people the solution will not be televised."

A technical video provided by BP shows that many of the preparations for the top kill attempt have already been completed, according to Markey's office. Hence, the congressman said, the company should be able to show the public the actual attempt to plug the well.

Pretty easy to kill the camera with mud and concrete.

BP could have fixed this if they were willing to spend billions of dollars. They were not.

maybe it’s just me, but this all seems like just one, big soap opera. It’s entertainment. If this was the Bush administration, the eyes would be bugging out of the talking heads and the veins bulging in the scwrawney necks upon which those talking heads sit.

This angst over a video feed is idiotic. Maybe I am wrong, but my guess is that this process will probably raise so much sediment there is no way you could see anything anyway. At least not enough to tell if the process was successful. It might be days before it settles down enough to tell.

I thought they would have to cut the top off the riser to perform this procedure. That will immediately open her up full blast. I suspect that is why the feed will be cut.

Which is cheaper for BP?

-One billion into a swiss bank account for Obama in return for his commitment that the federal govt will be on the hook to clean up the gulf?

-BP cleans up the gulf?

Funny, but I felt the same way about Congress' back room dealings when they rammed Socialized Health Care down our throats.

Ed Markey can get lost. This top kill is very high stakes and could make it worse. The experts don’t need Congressional publicity hounds playing sidewalk superintendent

I might be paranoid even to have a passing thought on this, but what are the odds this was planned? Maybe not planned to be as big as it is, but planned? I mean, with BP being exempted from regulatory rules, Obama doing nothing, and BP being such a big player in the cap-'n'-trade scam . . . /tinfoil hat!

SCREW MARKEY! In fact, stuff Markey in the hole! Real reason...This is not a TV show. They don't want any more equipment anywhere around the site than is necessary while they try this.

This whole “video feed” thing is ludicrous to begin with. I don’t care if BP kills the feed altogether.

Just curious as to how, technologically, they could have already had this fixed. I assume it could be done with "stuff" already on hand and not something that would take awhile to build.

My take--Pres. and company not as worried about environmental damage as opportunity. They see the results of this spill as opportunity to cut off drilling and make more regulations for drilling.

Just my opinion.
