New poll on California GOP Senate Race: Fiorina 41, Campbell 21, DeVore 16

In case you were wondering whether last night’s hotly debated Survey USA numbers were outliers, wonder no longer.

It’s hard to build name recognition in a state as big and expensive as California, and Fiorina is the only one of the Senate candidates who’s known to more than half of Republican primary voters. 46% have a favorable opinion of her to 17% with a negative one and 37% having no opinion. By comparison 54% of voters have no opinion about Campbell to 28% with a positive one and 19% with an unfavorable one, and DeVore is even less well known with 62% having no opinion about him to 24% with a favorable one and 14% with a negative one.

A look insider DeVore’s numbers in particular show some promise for his campaign that will likely never be fulfilled. Among voters who know enough about him to have an opinion- whether it’s a positive or a negative one- he trails Fiorina only 37-35. But with a 25 point gap in name recognition and without the money to close that gap it’s going to be very hard for him to have a serious chance to win this race at the end.

Among conservatives, Campbell’s actually third now with 15 percent; Fiorina leads with 47 percent and DeVore’s a distant second with 19. Palinistas are claiming this along with Haley’s surge as proof of Sarahcuda’s golden touch with the base, which is fair enough. But a smart friend who’s tapped into California politics e-mailed earlier per last night’s post to note that Fiorina’s been dominating Campbell and DeVore with TV advertising, which is obviously key in a state as big as Cali, and with mailers painting Campbell as a consummate RINO. It’s not just Palin’s endorsement that’s been helping her either: She got the nod from the National Right to Life and the California Farmers Bureau, which obviously helps in rural areas. The primary’s two weeks from today. Campbell and DeVore had better have a rabbit in the hat or else it looks like this is a done deal.

I know that Devore is a conservative, but how come he was not out with the central valley farmers SCREAMING about water rights and lost jobs? How did Carla get there after so many months of Fed interferance into water rights and tiny fish? I ask this because I think it is part of what is wrong with the majority of permanent law makers/politicans, they have lost touch with normal folks. If Devore was there why did the farmers pick CF?

DeVore, Campbell and Fiorina debated yesterday on the John and Ken show on KFI. I am a DeVore supporter, but honestly, Fiorina wiped the floor with my guy and with Campbell. I cannot stand that woman at all ... but she dominated the debate and left Campbell and DeVore wondering why in the world they were even there.

Unfortunately she did not dominate the debate with IDEAS and with Conservatism. She dominated it with an attitude of "you boys can't pick on me because I'm the girl." She'll be the nominee, without a doubt. But I will still cast my Quixotic vote for DeVore, even though he barely survived that train wreck of a debate yesterday.

I am a strong supporter of Chuck DeVore and will be voting for him on June 8th.

But that all said, he has been running a stealth campaign here in CA. I have not seen one single TV ad from him while the other candidates have been pounding the airwaves.

I have never seen him in anything but third place in every single poll I have looked at.

Where is he?

Well, I would rather see Fiorina get the nod than Campbell. However only in the same sense that I would prefer the mumps to small pox.

To run an effective ad campaign, you need the money to do it.

Fiorina is herself a multi-millionaire from her Hewlett Packard days and has outraised Devore by a humongous amount of money.

It's a sad thing when Republicans have to be swayed by advertisements instead of doing their own research as to which candidate is the best. But such is politics and such is life. The one with the most money gets the most exposure and most often, the most votes.

Yes I agree all voters should do their own research.

But CA is an intensly media driven state and political battles are won and lost on TV. If you’re not on TV, you don’t exist to most voters.
