Beck? Never listened to him.

Is this just the first time he’s jumped the shark?

“Where did I say I seem to want to forbid certain religions?”

You seek to restrict the building of a mosque, a place of worship -— in short, forbid the exercise of religion.

Now, you and I both agree that the koran is demon-inspired crap scribbled by a meglomaniacal pedophile to solidify his empire with a fake religion.

Unfortunately, it is a a religion, albeit a completely misguided and evil religion.

If this spot is OK on code and whatever for a house of worship, then a mosque can go there, as well.

I heard the same thing. I like Beck, what a great History or Civics teacher he would make, BUT sometimes he wears his Libertarianism on his sleeve and it just too much for me to listen to.

If Beck thinks the Government should not interfere with the Mosque placement across the street from Ground Zero, what would he say if the new replacement sky scrapper to the World Trade Center was going to be capped with a giant Islamic Crescent Moon? Would he still say “stay out of it”?

“Not all religions are equal. Besides that, our nation was founded upon the principles of Christianity, NOT Islam.”

So, Christianity will be the state religion of the USA?

What denomimination? Are Roman Catholics Christian? Can they build churches?

"I HAVE SWORN UPON THE ALTAR OF GOD ETERNAL HOSTILITY TO EVERY FORM OF TYRANNY OVER THE MIND OF MAN"

Every form - ESPECIALLY the "Sharia Compliant" form.

No, I seek to restrict it’s building at that location.

I do not agree or disagree that the Koran is anything, I haven’t even mentioned it.

“Any justification or rationale used for Islam can and will be used for other religions or faiths. We do not want to go down this road.”

BINGO.

Obama would ban evangelical protestants because they are dangeroous and “cling to their Bibles.” He specifically listed them, and not muslims, as potential terrorists.

Trusting the government to make ANY distinction regarding religion is beyond stupid.

I thought Freepers were smarter than this.

Does the Federal government own the land? or does NYC own it? Whose land is it that they are building on? Glenn is right, it’s not the federal governments job to stop a building. The real shame is that after 10 years we haven’t rebuilt those towers. Whose fault is that?

If the people of NYC can’t stop this mosque from being built then they deserve it. When will they STAND UP & replace their representatives? This is a local issue. And the people, if they care, need to react to it. Why aren’t they demanding the TOWERS be built FIRST before anything else is built?

“No, I seek to restrict it’s building at that location.”

On what basis? I know the basis: the false, violent, relgion taught at the mosque, as contained in the words of the koran.

I personally agree with you, as a PRIVATE CITIZEN.

But to take state action is a dangerous, dangerous road.

Then I wouldn’t imagine it matters whether Islam is a religion or an ideology, would it?

Does the law distinguish between "religion" and "ideology"? Should it?

The dictionary defines ideology as

1 : visionary theorizing 2a : a systematic body of concepts esp. about human life or culture b : a manner or the content of thinking characteristic of an individual, group, or culture c : the integrated assertions, theories, and aims that constitute a sociopolitical program

Most religions could qualify as ideologies under one or more of these definitions. Hence, any law which singles out Islam as an ideology could easily be used against Christians, Jews, Hindus, or other groups.

What part of “Sharia Compliant” don’t you understand?

When other religion’s actions constitute a tyranny over the mind of man, as SHARIA “Compliance” does - then they will be subject to Jefferson’s “ETERNAL HOSTILITY” as well.

What a piece of propaganda this is.

Beck is right. The government doesn’t have the right or grounds to say who can and can’t build a mosque. WE THE PEOPLE DO, but who listens to us?

You really don’t know the basis. It’s because a mosque at that location, I think, is in exceptionally poor taste.

I have to disagree with Beck on this. They aren’t telling them they can’t build a mosque. They are just telling them they can’t build it in a particular place. Governments do that with all kinds of religious buildings all the time, so this isn’t unusual.

I fear the government, and sometimes permitting a bad decision (e.g., a mosque) is best to deny the government power that it will ultimately abuse.

Even churches and other religious facilities are subject to zoning laws. NY City could probably deny them a zoning variance (which would have to be general, not "no mosques" or even "no religious facilities"), and they'd have to put their "Victory" mosque somewhere else.

Poor taste is not a legal reason, otherise the Bronx and most of New Jersey would be nuked.

The BOARD voted in FAVOR last night

Community Board 1, which represents the area of lower Manhattan that includes Ground Zero, voted 29-1 in favor of the proposal. There were 10 abstentions.

WHO ARE THESE IDIOTS???????

“Even churches and other religious facilities are subject to zoning laws.”

Sure. Of course, you can’t selectively enforce the law (e.g., like Obama does against whites and conservatives, while ignoring New Black Pather thugs).

If this isn’t zoned for a place of worship, that’s perfect.
