(In reference to the headline) I’ve often wondered, where do we get words like “Sino”, or for that matter, “gubernatorial”? There is no S in China and nobody runs for gubernor.

Sino is a prefix used to denote Chinese something.

Etymalogy:
Late Latin - "Sinae";
Greek - " Sinai";
Sanskrit - "Cina"
