BEIRUT, May 26 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese army announced on Wednesday that it launched surface-to-air missiles at Israeli fighter jets that had violated the Lebanese airspace.

A statement issued by the army directorate said that the two Israeli jets penetrated Lebanese airspace over the town of Kfar Kila in the south, heading to Shaka town.

If the IDF were really in Lebanese airspace (a big if) then they deserved to be shot at.

You run these risks when you fly over another nation's airspace without permission.

It's not something to undertake lightly.

They have every right to be in Lebanon or in Lebanon’s air space. They would not need to be there if not for Iran and Syria basically living in Lebanon through their surrogates. Maybe not even surrogates. Probably plenty of Iranians there in person.

All we need is that “Archduke Ferdinand” moment, and it’s all downhill.

The US is in roughly the same position it was back in the 40s when Hitler was rampaging through sovereign European countries. At some point one of our major allies is going to call for us to help, and this time we’ll be completely unable to provide any assistance.

Hell... Obama wouldn’t provide assistance anyway. Who am I kidding?

Isn’t “Lebanese airspace” really Syrian airspace?

But, when if comes to the Israeli AF vs. either Lebanon or Syria, it would be like kicking a rented mule.

Even without grand plan executed by some command center(or regime,) these things could flare up simultaneously as if coordinated deliberately. Opportunistic maneuvers by each hostile player could be enough.

In other words Lebanon admitted their SAM’s need some work.

Well they call them MISSiles for a reason. You need to fire a lot of SAMs in a coordinated manner to guarantee a hit. The idea being that the fist SAM drives you into the kill zone of the second or third SAM. Shooting them off one at a time you are just counting on luck or poor piloting skill on the part of your adversary, since almost any SAM can be defeated with chaff, flairs and evasive maneuvering.. And when the adversary is the IAF the piloting skill isn't in question.

I read that Sweden during ww2 shot at both ally and axis aircraft that flew over their airspace. Distressed planes were allowed to land, but the crews were incarcerated...and put in luxury hotels. A secret ally operation later in the war, was bringing the ally airmen back home.

Meanwhile, at the end of the war, the Swedes turned about 3,000 germans over to the Russians. The Germans were so angry about being turned over to the russians, that they began riots, killed themselves, began hunger strikes and self mutilation campaigns.

Google searching newspaper archive articles is pretty cool for the history buff.

>>This all has the makings of a world war.<<

It is almost certainly coming. Obama is all but inviting it but, to be fair, it would happen regardless. There is no other way out of this mess and hasn’t been for years.

It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. We are at the part just before they actually hit. There will be blood.

And then there is my tag line.

Israel, like it’s neighbor Lebanon, is so narrow that it’s possible to stray out of your airspace while making an over-wide turn.

If the Lebanese what their airspace respected then they need to sit on those @ssholes in Hezbollah. The writ of the Lebanese government doesn’t extend beyond the Litani river.

I also have the distinct feeling that many events of this past decade have been intentionally orchestrated to simply desensitize the population so that it no longer reacts in shock or in fury or in outrage, or ANY reaction at all, ... kind of like programmed "learned helplessness" on a grand scale.
