Yeah, I have the heck of a time trying to find yogurt that isn’t low fat or non fat. I even see some that is made from soy = yuck! Give me full fat cream-on-top yogurt, I love it.

Walking through Trader Joe’s, I start losing my appetite. Half the stuff they sell, I don’t even recognize as FOOD. They have strange-name grains and other ingredients: I don’t want to know....

As soon as I read the headline, I had no doubt that what would follow was another tedious, pointless pres release from these idiots, informing us that food often contains calories, fat and salt.

A very dangerous and misguided line of thought in a society creeping (running?) toward statism.

First I started with hiking. Then, I started to fast on Fridays for Lent. Sunday became splurging day. Went from a 12/14 flucuation to a size 10 and losing since about February without really trying. I eat smaller portions now, because eating more makes me feel sick. Eat until full and not stuffed. This was easier than obsessively working out and getting frustrated by no results.

Then get a little scale an a chart, or learn to eyball and accurately estimate portions (like anybody with diabetes must do all the time), do you own calculations, and quit advocating for the imposing significant costs on restaurants, and by extension those dining next to you.

I can look at a monster plate of pasta Alfredo and know exactly what is involved on the plus side and the minus side. Why can't you? And does knowing it's 1250 vs. 1290 calories really useful information?

It is called a MENU...

It is NOT a DEMAND by the cafe owner that you order ANYTHING.

You can order dry wheat toast & water if you want.

It's a genetic/societal cocktail that gives some people ample portions of both. Some people are just born with a condition that makes them want to eat more and/or exercise less than others. The slow metabolism thing is a rationalization. People that eat whatever they want, but don't get fat, don't want to eat very much.

lobby to have food stamps apply to fresh vegetables
and raw meat only.

Is it more protein....less, almost NO carbs? Sure seems to work for me....I "had" a "hereditary" small dense, non bouyant LDL issue I was told I could not change....went on mostly the CAVEMAN diet....and voila....doesn't seem I have the problem any more.....

I believe it is a genetic/psychological disease much the same as alcoholism. Difference is, alcoholics can stop and never take a drink again, but you have to eat food. A good parallel would be to tell an alcoholic that he must drink two drinks but cannot drink anymore . . . success rate for AA would fall to zero or close to it. So far, medical science rates a big zero for dealing with it (okay, maybe a 1 or 2 on a scale of 10).

Lap band and gastric bypass have shown promise, but even there the success rate for long term is iffy and the procedure requires intensive counciling as well as dedication from the patient. Also it is classified as "major surgery."

My Cardiologist did not believe me at first. He does now and recommends the diet. Triglycerides from 880 to 60 in a month. The Cardiologist cannot divulge details of other patients, but says the results are as dramatic. He is negative on the difficulty of staying on it.

I have been studying the diet for about four years now and have amassed an incredible amount of data. Over four years ago there was very little recognition of Metabolic Syndrome. Today there are volumes written. The problem now is sorting the junk from quality work.

The most interesting part of the diet is triglycerides reduction is an independent factor from weight loss.

I submit that your health insurance is going up because of government regulation. If you could join other low-risk individuals in buying from a company that could specialize in that, your rates might be lower. The government, however, is requiring you to also pay for smokers, helmetless motorcycle riders, drunk drivers, and complete fools, such as run-of-the-mill DemocRats.

There is no way the government is going to be able to regulate enough human behavior to bring down your insurance rates. If you think it is bad now, wait til the regulators really take over, in a couple of years.

Yes. I am pretty much limited to 20 grams of carbs even with heavy conditioning during swim season. I steer clear of all processed foods except for cheese and Jack. ;-) When I snack it is mostly nuts excluding cashews and peanuts (not really a nut).

I also have a medical problem involving excess clotting factors from a bone marrow malformation. Lost my spleen when I was 15 and began throwing clots around my heart vessels in my 40s. Some would clear up on their own (with heparin) and others required stenting (3 total). There was no other arterial buildup. I found this diet stopped most of my cardiac clotting issues that had developed and have been free of problems for over four years. You wouldn't know it looking at me (bp90/60-hr45), but that is just the way it is sometimes.

I try to stick to it as much as possible and rarely stray now. Many of the other benefits came as a surprise afterwards such as weight loss, improved sleep, reduced allergy symptoms, greater exercise tolerance and recovery.

I have learned that conventional wisdom is not so always wise and am happy to see this issue finally get the recognition it deserves. It was obvious that government medicine got us into this mess. Equally obvious is that government intervention will make it worse.
