The Coast Guardsman who completed BUDS will have to complete SQT or SEAL Qualification Training which can last up to a year. That includes SDV, Airborne, and many other types of training. They also have complete a Junior Officers course for SEAL Officers. They will be assigned to an operational platoon and will do a platoon workup after which they will deploy. They will be given the option of remaining Navy SEALs or returning to the CG. If they choose to remain in the SEALs they will have to transfer the USN. Marines are not on SEAL Teams. Marines do not go through BUDS nor do any other service branch members. A Marine may leave the Marines and enlist in the Navy. He can then attempt BUDS training. Foreign officers have gone through BUDS in the past and still do. How do I know all this? I am a former SEAL (SEAL TEAM ONE 70-73) and maintain contact with those in the know.
