Clinton: 'The rich are not paying their fair share'
politico ^ | Thursday May 27, 2012 | Ben Smith

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a rare foray into domestic politics today, offering her view that — given America's high unemployment — wealthy Americans don't pay enough taxes.

"The rich are not paying their fair share in any nation that is facing the kind of employment issues [America currently does] — whether it's individual, corporate or whatever [form of] taxation forms," Clinton told an audience at the Brookings Institution, where she was discussing the Administration's new National Security Strategy.

Clinton said the comment was her personal opinion alone. "I'm not speaking for the administration, so I'll preface that with a very clear caveat," she said.

Clinton went on to cite Brazil as a model.

"Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and guess what — they're growing like crazy," Clinton said. "And the rich are getting richer, but they're pulling people out of poverty."

Both Clinton and Obama campaigned for president on promises to allow the Bush tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire this year, a plan that is now part of Obama's budget. The move will effectively raise taxes sharply on people earning more than $250,000.

The Administration's new formal strategy document makes the case that domestic economic strength is crucial to influence abroad.

I agree with Hillary. I’m sitting here thinking about the ridiculous amount of money NBA basketball player make. I think obama could start with the NBA. Each player can keep $250,000 (enough for them to officially qualify as rich) and must give the remainder of the multiple millions to the government to disburse as it sees fit.

Now we’re talking about some serious distribution of wealth.

My thoughts exactly! She and baba can turn over all their money and property and go live with Roger. How fitting that would be, but I wouldn’t hold my breath!

What she’s not saying is that her definition of “rich” is global.

If you are one of those evil rich exploiters making $30,000 a year, you better start paying your “fair share” of your global responsibility.

Like all leftists, the suint thinks it’s HER money.

Beyond that, she needs to STFU. Tax policy is NOT in her portfolio at State.

BULLSH!T!!! I am sick of hearing this f-ing nonsense coming out the mouths of leftists when their lame, twisted and utterly stupid schemes to kickstart or prop up the economy utterly fail. The wealthy DO pay their ‘fair share’...whatever the hell that is these days. Who do these morons think create the bulk of jobs in this country? I don’t know about anyone else but I have never gotten a job from a poor person.

If these leftists think they haven’t paid enough, then by all means, pay in extra. Just leave the paychecks and bank accounts of society’s producers ALONE! (Too d@mn close to the weekend to get this hissed off!)

This is interesting. Domestic political pronouncements from Hillary, just a few days after the Clinton’s loyal minion Carville is publicly criticizing Obama in the Gulf.

Hillary smells blood in the water and is angling for a shot at 2012.

Hillary and Bill have theirs and will keep it. They don’t want anyone else joining their exclusive club.

The bottom 50% of taxpayers pay less than 5% of the taxes. The top 20% pay 90 %. The rich pay for everyone else. This why tax cuts are a loser politically. It won’t make a difference to the average voter.

Hillary is absolutely coorect. The "rich" are paying way beyond what is fair. They are paying almost all the taxes!

My question is "Who IS paying their fair share and how much is that?

Says the woman who helped herself to things that belonged to the taxpayer when she and Bill checked out of the White House. Not to mention that we also pay her monthly mortgage due via the fact that they charge the SS that precise amount each month to reside in the cottage on the NY property.

KMA.

There are 432 players in the NBA. According to Wiki, the average NBA income is about $5 million. That would be a total of $2.16 Billion.

There are approximately 330 million people in the US. Distributed evenly, thats about $6 a person.

I'm not much of a basketball fan, but I enjoy watching a game now and then. I'd rather forgo my $6 for the opportunity to enjoy watching a game.

Same with all the other pro sports.

If the numbers averaged the same for baseball, hockey and football, each person would get $24 dollars...whooo boy...that'll change some lifestyles.

The problem with the rich is there aren't enough of them, and they don't make enough money to support all the rest of us.

Include musicians, actors and film makers.
