Skip to comments.Instead of shrugging, Ron Johnson is running for office (WI Tea Party guy running against Feingold)
Posted on 05/27/2010 4:50:38 PM PDT by Indy Pendance
Before what he calls "the jaw-dropping" events of the past 19 months -- TARP, the stimulus, Government Motors, the mistreatment of Chrysler's creditors, Obamacare, etc. -- the idea of running for office never crossed Ron Johnson's mind. He was, however, dry tinder -- he calls Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" his "foundational book" -- and now is ablaze, in an understated, Upper Midwestern way. This 55-year-old manufacturer of plastic products from Oshkosh, Wis., is what the Tea Party looks like.
He is trim, gray-haired and suddenly gray-suited. For years he has worn jeans and running shoes to his office, but now, under spousal duress, he is trying to look senatorial -- "My wife upgraded me to brown shoes." He has been endorsed by the state party and will almost certainly win the September primary for the Republican nomination to run against Russ Feingold, who is seeking a fourth term in a year in which incumbency is considered a character flaw.
Former Republican governor Tommy Thompson led Feingold in polls and froze the race on the Republican side before deciding not to run. But in this season of simmering resentment of the political class, a neophyte such as Johnson might be a stronger candidate than a recycled executive. Johnson can fund himself. Asked how much of his wealth he will spend, if necessary, his answer is as simple as it is swift: "All of it."
The theme of his campaign,
"First of all, freedom."
What Samuel Johnson said of Milton's "Paradise Lost" -- "None ever wished it longer than it is" -- some readers have said of "Atlas Shrugged." Not Johnson, who thinks it is "too short" at 1,088 pages.
... which society's producers are weighed down by parasitic non-producers.

Rasmussen today shows Johnson only 2 points behind Foolsgold...http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/wisconsin/election_2010_wisconsin_senate.
This state has been begging for a viable candidate to go against Feingold...we got one who we won’t even have to hold our nose for!
“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”
It also does not hurt that Paul Ryan is with him. His congressional district is Feingolds old stomping grounds and may not feel too loyal to Feingold anymore.
Both `McShame AND Not-so-Feingold terminated in the same session?? Yay!
Come on, Wisconsin 2010.
I bet an invitation to the Rachel Maddow show is forthcoming. What this guy is saying—a foundational critique of the welfare state—is like Kryptonite for leftists. They will use any trick in the book to try to trip him up.
Our primary is early September, those numbers are going to skyrocket!
I’ve signed up for his campaign. Feingold barely won his other campaigns, “buy” only a couple thousand votes.
You all need to watch Wisconsin, we’re moving and shaking. We’ve never been a Blue state, and we’re sick and tired of the dems running us. We’re awake, and we’re kicking their asses out.
Isn’t it refreshing? And today Wall dropped out. Westlake, as nice as he is, he should run for a more regional race.
Johnson will WIN! Feingold is out! I’m so excited about this race.
Be still my heart! It couldn’t be better. Well, Dashhole was a pretty great defeat a few years ago getting his butt beaten.
Nice. What is so hard for good conservative Repubs is they have to go up against Dem scum with unlimited funds from unions, hollywood billionaires and other scum.
This guy sounds like the real deal. The public just wants honest but strong men and women to say “no more” like Chris Christie.
If he plays it right, he’ll ignore her. I kind of feel he will.
“Rasmussen today shows Johnson only 2 points behind.”
Holy Smokes! Johnson just got in the race!
“Asked how much of his wealth he will spend, if necessary, his answer is as simple as it is swift: “All of it.””
Wow. Talk about conviction. I like this Ron Johnson.
He is, he’s the real deal, a citizen senator. I really believe he’s in the mold of Chris Christie, he’s NOT a Scott Brown. We’re not Mass, we are a conservative state, we’ve been overrun by leftists. And only Milwaukee (Detroit wannabe’s) and the college town, who hold the most population is directing our votes. We’ve had enough of their games. And, their time is done.
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!
No kidding. He only announced a week ago Monday.
McShame-Feingold caused incredible damage to America and was proof McCain is a Democrat.
Wow. He announced a week ago? Amazing. People in WS are angry. I agree with the other poster that this fellow Johnson is in the “citizen Senator” mold not one of these lifetime Dems who rule until they die.
In Lautenberg (NJ) The Mummy’s case - he is ruling into the afterlife. ;-)
WOW! Linked here from another thread.
I think he's a hottie too, particularly when compared to Feingold!
I bet an invitation to the Rachel Maddow show is forthcoming.
Has anyone ever noticed that Rachel Maddow has an Adam’s Apple bigger than most men? Just an observation.
Have you looked at the vote numbers? They only won by thousands of votes. Feingold and Gore lost buy 5000 or so votes. Add in voter fraud, they’d have lost. We just need to get rid of Doyle, elect Walker, and we’ll be the reddest of red states. We’re DESPERATE, craving, desiring, to be red! We’re so chomping at the bit. Unless you live here, we are NOT the typical ‘blue state’. They’ve forced us, and we’re rebelling. They will not win again. We’ve had it in Wisconsin as much as the US has had it for DC.
I am proud I made my first donation to Ron’s campaign last night. with Wall dropping out, he has a lot of momentum.
if there is a Ron Johnson ping list, please put me on it.
Thanks for the post, and your daughter’s service.
The apparent RINO frontrunner, Terrence Wall, dropped out today.
I hope Johnson can mount a creditable campaign. He’s got a massive uphill climb to unseat Feingold.
Westlake can sell all his blaze orange shirts. I have no doubt about Ron Johnson. He’s putting his life on the line, his finances, his LIFE! EVERYTHING. Conservatives have wanted this, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker, Shawn Duffy, Scott Walker, Ron Johnson, et al. Wisconsin has had enough, we’re taking back our state! Praise God!
Go to his site, Ron Johnson for senate dot com. You know the drill, one word, etc.
In the less than 10 days he’s been running, I’ve gotten many updates. Sign up for his newsletter, go to Ron Johnson for senate dot com. I really don’t want to do all the html crap or whatever.
I guess I’m a bad leader, I should start a ping list, yeah, that will gain traction..... But honestly, I’d be terrible at it. I’d be THE WORST PINGER and NOTIFIER in the world. Really, I’m a part time poster on FR. So, I suppose the best is to check my posts and follow me that way.
I don’t ‘follow’ Ron Johnson. I follow his news stories on FR via the good WI posters and local WI politics. I’ve signed up for his e-mail. This guy is shaking up our state. It’s stuff we need to know. Feingold has to be EXTREMELY worried! America, this is something to watch!
Thanks about my daughter, I really appreciate your acknowledgment. She’s a vet. Her hubby is home on leave from Afghanistan for another week. They are extremely enjoying his homecoming and his time off. What a great time they are having. Pray for our troops. He goes back next week. We love him to pieces. He’s deployed until February. Pray for him, his fellow soldiers, their mission, and their families. You don’t realize how much these families are affected they are.
Dad or Mom Dies.
Think of that.
We’re ate war. It’s not a beauty pageant, It’s America. America is waking up. We’re fed up and we’re not going to take it anymore. You liberals are toast.
YOU GO GUY!!! ON WISCONSIN..........
It was beginning to look grimmer for GOP chances to take over the Senate, but this week there are 3 possibilities that weren’t there before - CT (sure, Blumenthal is ahead now, but he is vulnerable esp. if there is a drip, drip, drip of reports about him lying about other things rather Vietnam), WA with Rossi in the race and now, WI.
I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in Ras’s poll. Most of the people who were polled had never heard of Johnson, so it’s clearly a case of generic Republican vs. Feingold, which won’t be as accurate as when the candidates are well known to the pollees. But still the fact that it’s “anything but Feingold” is a force to be capitalized on.
imagine if both mccain and feingold go down!
Thanks! I’ve never been so optimistic that we can defeat Feingold. Next up is the senator who’s legislating from his coffin, Kohl.
Be still my heart! Wouldn’t that be fabulous? I have a feeling McCain’s senate race is tougher than his pres. run. We need to support Arizona! It’s really time he retires and enjoys his grand kids. Every time I buy something on the internet, I try to find out if they’re from Arizona.
I just saw Ron Johnson interviewed on Fox. Very impressive. Might I say, Presidential?
He’s never run for dog catcher, whoa, there about president. They said that about Scott Brown. Granted, Ron Johnson is more conservative than Brown. His political bible is Atlas Shrugged, and I have a ‘Who is John Galt’ sticker on my SUV. He’s a citizen normal person getting involved. Slow down there, let’s win the house first!
We’re sick and tired of being ‘run’ by two cities. We are not blue, outside of these two cities. And we’re going to change that. We have the worst voter fraud in the country. Just wait, we’ll take our state back, likewise, we’ll take our country back. The citizens of Wisconsin have had enough. If not, our country is screwed, because Wisconsin is what’s wrong with America. We have conservatives, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker, Sean Duffy, Ron Johnson, true blue conservative constitutional Americans. Keep your eye on these guys.
We have conservatives, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker, Sean Duffy, Ron Johnson....
That’s an All-Star Lineup. Speaking of voter fraud; I remember in the 2000 Prez election, DemocRATS in Milwaukee were giving cigarettes to street people to get them to vote for Gore.
Apparently, the big wigs in Washington are looking at WI seriously with respect to these conservatives. It’s really shaping up nicely in WI, keep your fingers crossed. These kind of people are being elected across the country.
Americans are fed up. We’re tired of the trampling of the constitution. These guys know it. And they’re going to shut down all this crap. In WI, we’ve been living the federal assault and the state assault. We’re getting a double whammy here. It’s that bad.
As a side note, WI isn’t a blue state, and the people outside Madison and Milwaukee are speaking up. Those two communities won’t rule us anymore.
We Have Had Enough!
Look at the gov of NJ. Don’t you want to clone him and give him a big hug? Those four WI guys are in that mold.
Watch WI, the libs are going down.
No kidding, we’re sick and tired of this crap. Watch Wisconsin, we’re facing this crap, and we’re done with it.
