With Memorial Day bearing down on us, we thought it the right time to salute those brave sci-fi soldiers who've fought so hard for the betterment of the sci-fi universe.
The tribute begins below!

Agreed.. We are talking about real soldiers not some lollypop candy ass playing a soldier.. Not some guy behind a camera laughing and smirking at the anti-military lines that are fed into the movies... We are talking about real blood spilled on battle fields not corn syrup with red dye in it.. Memorial Day means alot to me, for the men that died in all our conflicts. Lets remember some of the real soldiers on Monday. Patton,Audy Murphy,Carlos Lozada,Charles Waters,Eric Wood Jr. Real men not make believe...
Thanks for posting. I enjoyed pretending for a few minutes. Unlike some others, I’m able to separate reality from fiction and enjoy some of both. ;)
Clearly from the tenor of some responses to this post it is totally inapporpriate to have fun on Memorial Day.
Instead you should pray and meditate over those who have died in the country’s wars.
Now, do I think the Honroed Dead should be remembered? Absolutely. There should be parades and people putting flowers and flags on graves.
But I think it’s also important for all to remember that one of the things we fight for is freedom of speech and expression. I want people to have fun, even if it does occasionally touch on things some people might might consider sacred.
I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.
Wow. I should have finished my coffee and done a better job of proofreading.
Sgt. Malcom Reynolds this list is meaningless!
Okay, since Leslie was one of the sci-fi soldiers that came to my mine, what was his character’s name in this film?
The quantum mechanic chief was also good.

Tim Thomerson as The Sarge in “Zone Troopers.”
If you’ve not seen this one, it is a must.
It was the only way to be sure....
Lighten up Francis.
This list is NOT disrespectful to my father, brother, uncle, grandfather, father-in-law, grandfather-in-law, or anyone else who has served in real life.
It’s just a science fiction oriented website trying to be topical.
Memorial Day is an important day and you should be appropriately solemn at a memorial service.
But you can still have fun over a holiday weekend. My Vietnam Vet father is going to spend his Memorial Day splashing in the pool with his grandkids. He’s earned it.
You can criticize this article as long as you only attend a memorial service and do not go to a Memorial Day picnic, baseball/softball game, parade, festival, amusement park, beach, or anything fun this coming weekend.
Looks good for his age doesn't he? The model next to him was cast from the original sculpture before the 40 foot tall one everyone knows was cast (Dan said at a speech yesterday they had a heck of a time finding a foundry which could handle the full size monument).
Oh well...back to promoting an industry, the entertainment complex, which has polluted our culture and which hates what Dan stands for.
Obviously the linked list was for for the reading impaired.
1. John Carter
2. Johhny Rico
3. Donal Graeme
4. Robert Hedrock
5. Honor Harrington
6. Roderick Blaine
7. Michael O’Neal
8. Alois Hammer
9. Mike Harmon
10. Roger MacClintock
It is disrespectful.
Comparing Sci-Fi heros to those who made the ultimate sacrifice is a disgrace and others here agree.
Having never worn the uniform I can’t imagine you would understand.
No, it is not. You are wrong.
Any list without Ender is a weak one.
Let it go.
Here’s another one:
The USMC bird colonel in the original “War of the Worlds.”
Commander JJ Adams. He got Anne Francis, so the name don’t matter much.
Just a historial footnote re Iwo Jima. There was one official army unit that was in the 3rd assault wave. It was the famed 75th JASCO (Joint Assault Signal Company) in which my father-in-law served throughout the Pacific.
I understand that a Seabee company was accidentally sent ashore (the call was for one Seabee needed to operate some equipment) and they that were literally wiped out (too lightly armed).
Vietnam Swift Boat veteran John O’Neill’s father fly missions at Iwo, while radio talk-show hosts John Batchellor’s father served there as did Mark Levin’s grandfather.
A salute to all our veterans (including my son, OIF). You put most of our politicians to shame.
