FORT WORTH - Police in Fort Worth are looking for a man who they said tried to run over a police officer overnight in the 2400 block of North Main Street in the heart of the Stockyards .
The officer approached two men in a car, which is when the driver allegedly tried to run over the officer. The officer fired shots at the car, hitting the passenger. A citizen also opened fire on the car.
The passenger was pushed out of the car and arrested, but the driver is still on the loose.
The officer was not injured.
I think the citizen may find himeself in trouble.
Can a CCW holder legally open fire on a car leaving the scene of a crime that he was not even involved in?
This explains things better. Sounds like the armed citizen was able to watch the whole thing go down and knew what was happening.

Now I would love to know if these criminals that tried to run over the officer were wet backs or black..It seems when the press do not want anyone to know what race they are the seem to omit that face..If it had of been a white then it would have been spread all over the paper along with a very long article telling how bad the white is.
I saw this on the news last nite and thought they said the citizen that fired his gun thought the officer was shot.
Geez! What did this guy get arrested for? Being shot?
“Being injured in the commission of a crime.”
Great, now the police can shoot you while “acting under color of law” and then charge you for it.

The bad guys tried to kill the officer,,(90% chance the bad guy was an illegal) so he assisted the officer. In Ft Worth the guy will probably get a medal.
Sounds like not an illegal,, but i bet the guy who helped the cop is fine. But still, if a cop is in a deadly force zone, id be danged sure he knew i was on his side,,,, that fog of war thing.
Kinda sucked to be that guy's passenger, didn't it?
It varies by State, but here in Texas the statute says use of dealy force in justified to protect the life of another.
In the Stockyards in Fort Worth, I am surprised just one person joined in.
I can’t imagine a prosecutor filing that charge, even if it is within the law to do so. He might find his car in the new impoun yard in Lake Arlington.

“Don’t Mess With Texas” (citizens may just shoot your criminal derriere).
IIRC, about 25 years ago a non-involved citizen witnessed a thug brutalizing
a lady in a parking lot in one of the urban areas of Texas.
The citizen retrieved a hand cannon (a BIG-@$$ revolver of BIG caliber)
and ended up shooting through the door of the car the thug was fleeing in.
Thug caught one of those big-@$$ slugs and died.
Grand jury refused to indict.
Oklahoma (at that time) was just about the same; only if it had been
in Oklahoma City during the tenure of DA Bob Macy, there would have
been no grand jury. The citizen would have gotten thanks from the DA for
cleansing the street of a criminal with an extensive arrest record for
violent crimes.
