SALEM -- Oregon’s stubbornly bad economy has left a huge hole in the state budget, distressed lawmakers learned today -- $563 million that must be cut from schools and other programs over the next year unless more money comes in.

The figure was reported during the quarterly economic and revenue forecast, delivered minutes ago to a somber gathering of House and Senate revenue committees.

The bad financial news means that either Gov. Ted Kulongoski or the Legislature must take steps to balance the current two-year budget, which

Raise taxes, and you will LOWER revenues because business will LEAVE the state, existing Businesses WILL NOT HIRE because they can’t afford to. Some will fire employees because they can’t afford them anymore.

Oregon has very liberal gun laws.

Class III is legal and easy to get, CCW is shall-issue, with no artifical limits like no carry in parks, churches, etc.

There’s no waiting period for CCW holders. Private sale are legal, there’s no mandatory registration for guns...all in all it’s a good state to be a gun owner in.

And where I live, Southern Oregon, it’s pretty conservative.

The majority of the state's general fund goes to schools. And after last year's dispersion of money, many school districts responded by granting raise, while the rest of the state employees took pay cuts. Teacher greed is the most powerful force in Oregon.

We need to renew the thinking of a State of Jefferson with the conservative counties in Californicator and those in Oregone.

Put in Californicator’s Prop 13 to protect home and business owners and use Oregone’s no retail taxes to protect the little person buying stuff each week to live on.

Fire every teacher, principal and anyone getting a paycheck from a school district. Then put the schools into a business mode.

Ban every public union and declare SEIU members as persona non grata and give them 48 hours to leave the new state.

Ban every non profit in the new state of Jefferson.

Then, repeal every frigging green law that has killed/is killing the lumber industries, ranching, farming, professional fishing and other honest ways to make a living. Give every green commie whacko 24 hours to get out of the state of Jefferson and put a bounty on those, who ignored the get out orders.

Allow any non criminal and sane person 18 and over to carry a gun after a simple firearm safety test is passed like the one we have for new hunters in Californicator land. Then have a two strike law with the exception serious crimes against other. Then, one strike would remove the criminal.

Last but not least, legislators would work from their homes via the internet for free and serve one term of 2 years. There might be no need for a governor after the Terminator and the terrible liberal governors in Oregone.

Then let the left wing liberals left in Califonicator land and Oregone tax themselves into total destruction.

Actually the constitutional requirement in Oregon is that tax and fee increases require a supermajority in the legislature. In last year's session legislative Democrats (and Republicans) approved two major business tax increases, applying mainly to gross receipts (as opposed to profits).

Now, we have relatively easy access to referendum here and those two legislative actions were referred to the voters with a lot of help and guidance from one of my favorite groups, Americans For Prosperity.

Since there are so many ex-Californians living there, they will most likely agree to higher taxes.

And late last year those ill informed voters did exactly that. And it did bring forth, almost immediately, the expected exodus of many small businesses from the state. Those on the thin edge of profitability, seeing new taxes taking them into the red, have absolutely NO REASON to remain in Oregon, and they are leaving.

Ya know, I recently moved to Jefferson State (Klamath County) and what I have found here is actually quite disturbing. Rather than the expected group of conservative folks pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps, I see a bunch of people with absolutely NO AMBITION to do more than is necessary to maintain the STATUS QUO.

With that kind of attitude it is no surprise (official) unemployment here remains at 15%.

My understanding from a relative that lives in Siskayou County, just across your border, the Fed has destroyed the timber industry at the urging of the militant, medling EnvironMentalists and put way over half the population on some form of public assistance including foodstamps.

I have more in common with the rednecks and loggers in Yreka and Northern California than I do with the granola crunching Gaia worshippers in the Tri-County Metro area up North that have destroyed our state.

And yeah, they’ve destroyed logging, too. I used to be a logger and when I came here from North Idaho 25 years ago there were several dozen mills in Southern Oregon, all offering family-wage jobs.

Now we are down to ONE mill in JoCo and they have to buy their timber from California, as there are no timber sales open down here...the enviromentally-deranged fascists file lawsuits against every sale that comes up.
