White House Source: Obama Ignorant of Sestak Bribe Attempt Until "Recent Days"
Friday, May 28, 2010 | Kristinn

In reports that appear to have been missed in the flurry of reporting this afternoon on the Obama administration's release of a cursory report on its in-house investigation on the administration's attempted bribery of Rep. Joe Sestak, CNN's John King reported that a White House source told him Barack Obama was kept in the dark about the bribe attempt until "recent days."

Posting on Twitter around 1 p.m. EDT, King reported in three Tweets what his sources were telling him about the unfolding scandal:

WH Source: prez didnt know about rahm/clinton/sestak talks until recent days; GOP pressing for more details.

WH memo lacks important details. Source says COS Emanuel did not check with counsel office before enlisting Clinton. #sestak

Svl other WH aides knew of Emanuel/Clinton effort. WH memo doesn't mention. #sestak

King has not posted to his Twitter account since posting these three reports.

Is someone in the White House trying to create a case for Obama's innocence in the Sestak scandal? It sure looks that way. It's not credible, but it shows an acknowledgement by some in the Obama administration that Obama himself could be in serious trouble if he is found to have been involved in the Sestak bribe attempt.

This is looking more like the Watergate cover-up with each passing hour. (And we know how that ended.)

Well, if Arlen remembered to turn on his hidden recorder, we’re in business. Otherwise we are counting on his memory. And Scottish Law.

showerBoy is conveniently hiding out in Israel, while theOne shifts blame to Clinton, who is laying low today. Sestak’s story is pathetic. sadly, I heard the reporters applauded sestak after his impromptu presser....gag me. ‘bams should have stayed in Washington to honor our servicemen, instead he takes a vacation while BP buses in stooges for a phony photo op for O’s three hour tour....you cannot make this stuff up.

I don’t believe that Nixon was informed of the Watergate break in before it occurred. He only found out after the fact and it was the cover up that killed him, so this is a lame argument.

You make good points but the real loser here is obama. Clinton is already damaged and I suspect they will turn on obama should the sledding get rough. And hellery will be conveniently untouched by any of this . Just sayin.....

It is Sestak, himself who is to blame for the SecNav talk because he refused to rule that out when the he first spoke about the job offer in February:

The disclosure came during an afternoon taping of Larry Kane: Voice of Reason, a Sunday news-analysis show on the Comcast Network. Sestak would not elaborate on the circumstances and seemed chagrined after blurting out "yes" to veteran news anchor Kane's direct question.

"Was it secretary of the Navy?" Kane asked.

"No comment," Sestak said.

"Was it [the job] high-ranking?" Kane asked. Sestak said yes, but added that he would "never leave" the Senate race for a deal.

A White House spokesman this morning strongly denied an offer had been made to Sestak. Before the spokesman issued the denial, a senior Pennsylvania Democrat said Sestak's account was met with anger by White House officials yesterday.

Also note the first official response from the White House was to lie about a job offer to Sestak.

Clinton jokes: ‘I created Rahm . . . . I am so sorry’ - Ex-president pinch-hits at annual dinner
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Monday, March 22, 2010
Author: Lynn Sweet, The Chicago Sun-Times

Former President Clinton filled in for President Obama at the Gridiron Club and Foundation annual spring dinner on Saturday night, and he was a hit, with zingers aimed at himself, Obama and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

“So tell the truth. You guys miss me?” Clinton said at the top of his remarks.

Emanuel was not at the white-tie-and-evening-gown dinner — this weekend marked the bar mitzvah of his son — but fellow Chicagoans White House senior advisers Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod were at the head table.

“Look, I know Axelrod from Chicago and Valerie. I know them before. Let’s get this straight,” Clinton said in his setup.

“I found Rahm . I created Rahm . I made him the man he is today. I am so sorry,” quipped Clinton.

Emanuel’s rise to national prominence started when he served in the Clinton White House and was a fund-raiser in his 1992 campaign.
