3 planes forced to land after violating airspace over Obama's home
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 31, 2010 | Andrew L. Wang

At least three single-engine planes violated a temporarily restricted flight area apparently set up over the area this past weekend for President Barack Obama's return to Chicago, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

Maj. Mike Humphreys declined to say specifically that the restricted area was being enforced for the president's visit or how large the area is but said that, in general, the zones are put in place for various reasons including "POTUS movements."

"It's not so unusual that these incidents occur," he said. In most cases the incursions are accidents, "but we have to be ready every time."

“Maj. Mike Humphreys declined to say specifically that the restricted area was being enforced for the president’s visit or how large the area is”

Well that’s stupid! If there going to have a no fly zone and keep in secret, of course there will be incursions...

Did the no fly zone ground the bats in Obama’s belfry?

It’s normal to set up restricted spaces for air travel, and at sea for boats if there are naval exercises.

These areas are normally delineated on charts, and the warnings, of course, tell you what areas to stay out of.

But this article says: “Maj. Mike Humphreys declined to say specifically that the restricted area was being enforced for the president’s visit or how large the area is.”

WHAT? THERE’S A RESTRICTED AREA, BUT THEY REFUSE TO TELL YOU WHERE IT IS?

How . . . Nazi of them.

These Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) can suddenly go into effect with no prior notice, and heaven help any pilot who hasn’t gotten the word and inadvertently busts one. “Penalties” include using deadly force to stop the “intruder.”

And there aren’t convenient marks on the ground or roadsigns available to pilots who are also charged with seeing and avoiding airborne traffic while safely flying the aircraft. It’s really easy to not be completely precise in navigation while dealing with other airborne issues.

When Obama flew into the San Francisco Bay Area recently, the amount of airspace that was now off limits was huge - from Marin County airports to the north, all airports along the coast down to Gilroy, and east to Tracy. No flight training. No Ag work. No gliders. No skydiving. No banner towing. No aerial photography.

Anybody in the administration want to guess how this impacts small aviation companies already on the ropes from a terrible California economy?

All to raise funds for Babs and visit a solar panel company that’s already received half a billion in government funding.

Ptooie.

I don’t know why anyone would want to be in Obama’s airspace.

Thunderstorms are approaching the Chicago area.....in fact, I hear the thunder rumbling loudly as I type. In fact, I just got up and looked out the window and it's pouring.

If the BarakBQue-in-Chief is planning on handling the tongs today for the grilled filets mignon with Caesar salad, I'm afraid everything is already being moved into the garage.

He should have commanded the storm to by-pass Chicago, by Jove!

So the fliers didn't know about a secret 'no fly' zone?

They are well defined and published in NOTAMs readily available online. Its far from secret. The PR probably just did not know the answer

It's the Obama Regime's equivalent of double secret probation.
