When economists start dishing out advice about health care -- at the request of the government -- get worried. Very worried.
I'm alarmed by a report released Thursday, "Charting A Path To Sustainable Health Care in Ontario," by TD Bank economists Don Drummond and Derek Burleton.
It's a warning shot across the bow, especially to baby boomers, seniors and doctors.
You cost the health system money? Watch out. You're in the government's crosshairs.
The government knows it has to make unpopular decisions. It will do so -- and then solemnly point to this report, which Health Minister Deb Matthews asked TD Bank for, to justify those cuts.
We've seen the stats. We've heard the mantra: An aging population will suck the lifeblood out of the health system.
Just like illegal aliens?
The harsh reality is that Social Security and Medicare were based on math that doesn’t work long term.
Now the question is who will get the blame?
Me. Can we privatize it now?
Exactly right. When SS was instituted, the retirement age was set at 65. FDR was no dummy - the life expectancy was 67. Now, people are living into their 90’s and beyond. Not to mention, the explosion of people on Social Security Disability, which automatically qualifies them for Medicare.

Anyone who is honest and can add two plus two can see that the end result of socialist health care is euthanasia of the old and infirm. It’s the ONLY way to achieve the cost control that will be necessary. We’ll eventually be useless eaters, Comrade.

There's some hope if we can stop the Baraqqi surge. But it's not a sure thing. My fear is that he wins in 2012 with a Clintonian plurality as the opposition splinters.

I think there is some reality mixed in with the fantasy.
To start with, medical litigation is so fierce that doctors spend half their income on malpractice insurance. So of course they advise a lot of unnecessary tests and procedures, to cover their rear ends.
Second, Medicare is a stupid idea, because it includes people who can afford their own health care. Since it obviously can’t last, ironically as all get out, Obama’s efforts to kill it as part of Obamacare might actually be a good idea, because if it is killed, and *then* Obamacare is overturned by the courts, we would get rid of TWO bad ideas at the same time.
Third, since there is no way to keep the level of medical care we have today, people, not the government, will have to decide when they care enough about their care, to pay for their own care.
There are some people who would go to a doctor every week, for nothing in particular, if somebody else was paying for it. But if they have to pay for it, they would only see a doctor when they have to.
So what about baby boomers? They are becoming senior citizens, but they, like everybody else, will have to accept that they can’t expect their unborn great great grandchildren to pay for their high level of care.

Yep! The neck is too small to conduct much shock down to the body. Turkeys are pretty darn big birds.
Of course, it is better to choose the right tool for the job.
They were based on the Ponzi scheme theory. If you got in during the 1940s through the 1960s you were good. You actually made more than you put in. After that it gets progressively worse until the scheme collapses as all Ponzi schemes eventually do. The problem is you have to keep sucking more and more young people in to pay for those receiving. At some point everyone who can be is already in the system, and as those who invested with Bernie Madoff found out, you're screwed.

I know why they are not legal, but I sure wish a .22 was legal to hunt Turkey. Too many yahoo's out there that would try COM (center of mass) Shots. I really hate stupid people.
