-3 Communications subsidiary EOTech, Inc. in Ann Arbor, MI received a $25 million sole-source, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract, to provide their optical sighting system for U.S. Special Operations Commands M4A1 carbines. Work will be performed in Ann Arbor, MI and is expected to be complete by May 2015. $262,636 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year, on Sept 30/10. The US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division in Crane, IN manages this contract (N00164-10-D-JN68). EOTech offers a unique technology, thanks to its Holographic Weapon Sight. The firm says that their night-vision compatible sight combines ranging and aiming in one image, which is not affected by problems ranging from mud on the sight, to a cracked sight window. This simple simulator demonstrates the basic sight picture.

Still a “mouse gun!”
The bullet from that 'mouse gun' has more energy at 150 yards than a .45 ACP does at the muzzle.

Still a mouse gun!

I have an m4. It’s full of surprises.
No matter where your head is positioned, if you can see that red ring and can put that circle on the target, your shot hits the target. It's almost too easy! '-)
I have one on my M-4gery. I like it. To me, nothing is quicker on target under 100 yards, yet it’s plenty accurate out to 300 or beyond. (I have 53 year old eyes.)
Its awesome!
EOTech Bang!
Yep. For firing out of position where you can’t get a good cheek weld, nothing is better. For example, firing out of a car window one handed, while driving with the left hand. (I read this one.) An SF guy in a running gun battle in Afghanistan reported that he couldn’t have made lots of impossible “trick shots” firing out the driver’s window with any other sight. Picture it: left hand on wheel, right hand on M4 pistol grip, then dipping your head down now and then to get a quick red bullseye reticle on the bad guy and pull the trigger. Drive, shoot, drive, shoot. An EOTech is great for firing while doing other things, like running, climbing, weaving etc. Just a quick glimpse through the screen from any damn angle, and you are on target.
Hmmm...
Specifically why? I don't want to waste a line on my Christmas wish list.
Weren’t those Crane built SBR’s previously using Aimpoint’s ?
I have used the EOTECH for my last three rotations to AF and am stunned by the accuracy. I am getting a little long in the tooth and my eyes were (are) getting bad but the EOTECH really has helped me to get back in the ring.
And a ball-peen hammer at full swing has even more (1/2 mass x velocity squared= force).
.22 FMJ rounds can be deadly. But not as deadly as .30 FMJ rounds traveling at the same velocity. For range (beyond 200 yds), penetration through material like cinder blocks, and first round kills, I'd like a cartridge that is actually adequate and legal for shooting deer. Goes double when the deer are shooting back.
This is what it looks like, folks. The center dot is 1 MOA.
That is cool.

I think he is comparing the .223 to the much better .308 (7.62 X 51), not a pistol round.
MSRP is only $20,000+.
I'm still OK with those iron peep sights -- but that EOTech will spoil you -- in a big hurry!!!
