PLANS are still being made for US President Barack Obama's Australian visit in a few weeks' time, despite concerns he may have to cancel again.
Mr Obama is grappling with the US's worst ever environmental disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Efforts to block the spill have failed and the White House says it might leak until August.
Mr Obama is due to visit Canberra and Sydney in mid-June, but there is speculation he may feel the pressure to stay at home and deal with the crisis.
He had to cancel a previous Australian visit, in March, to rally support for crucial healthcare reform.
It's a sensitive topic because US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also cancelled an Australian trip in January, to deal with the Haiti earthquake.

Except for the roughly million dollars wasted last time by the Australian government recalling Parliament so he could address it.
At least this time the trip is scheduled for a time Parliament is in session - but there are still considerable costs in both countries in preparing for such a trip (security planning, etc)
Don’t feel bad Australia, he had to delay his Chicago vacation a few hours to stop off at the Gulf coast.
Australia is an ally, right...We want the bad guys to be our friends....who cares about these allies...

But there are some things about the Gulf situation I keep waiting to hear about.
It has been thrown around here and there that a super tanker could be used to syphon up the oily water and separate the il from it. I keep waiting to hear whether this is true. I mean, can such be done.
If this can be done, why wouldn’t BP go ahead on its own and put some tankers out there to do this very thing?
Does BP need some kind of Fed Gov permission to float such tankers and begin such tasks?
