ISLAMABAD, Pakistan A recent Washington Post article asserted that there has been a decline in Pakistan applications for student visas in the U.S. as a result of a series of terrorism incidents linked to Pakistanis, including the recent Times Square terrorist attempt.
According to the article, accounts of mistreatment and humiliation as a result of rigorous checks have created a sense of dread for many Pakistanis considering travel to the States, so they are choosing other destinations.
But students from Pakistan have long had a preference for pursuing higher education in the U.K. over the U.S. In part this is because colonial ties have made the Pakistani and British education systems much more in aligned with one another, meaning that entry requirements are easier to attain and the resulting degrees fit in better with Pakistani standards and laws.
Easier to go elsewhere
On a recent day in Islamabad, long lines of people waited to have their applications seen by immigration consultants.
I am going to the U.K. so I can complete my masters in law. With a British qualification there are better prospects of a job when I come back here, said Ansar Mehmood, who had just been admitted to University of Central Lancashire, in the north of England.
Standing in line outside the U.K. visa application center, Mehmood said students find it easier to apply for higher education degrees in Britain because the application process is more streamlined and the rules are more in tune with Pakistani standards.
Khalil ur Rehman, who has run a visa consultancy business in Lahore for over 15 years, said hes seen a similar trend. Pakistanis apply for mainly U.K. and also Australia [another former British colony], as the education systems are similar, said Rehman.

Good!
“That is why people don’t like to go over there.”
Mehmood must have missed that illegal alien memo.
Great news! Thanks!, Pakistani students. You can keep your false assumptions and suicide bombers.
TIME-OUT ON ALL LEGAL IMMIGRATION VISAS EXCEPT FOR EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES!
I don’t see anybody being treated as animals. However I hope they don’t come here. I find them to be more like animals then Americans are. The UK can have them & all the other muslims that come here.
I totally agree!
We don’t. And if that isn’t enough to keep them away, then let’s just say, “and don’t let the door hit in your the butt as you leave.”
Great news!
The Pakis should know, too, that we have little bits of bacon in everything...pass it on.
Check this amazing stuff out:
Muslim woman with 8 kids living in Government supplied $4.2 million London Council House
near Paul McCartney,
costing $11,000 a month paid for by the Socialist Welfare State.....................
says Life in Britain is great !!!
Ya think???
And then she gets an additional $16,000 in cash each year more, in “benefits”!!!
Wow.
and again, “Why work when I can get $64,000 in benefits a year AND drive a Mercedes, a van, and have a 42 inch TV?”
The Davey family’s $1,250 -a-week state handouts pay for a four-bedroom home, top-of-the-range mod cons and two vehicles including a Mercedes people carrier.!!!
Father-of-seven Peter gave up work because he could make more living on benefits.!
Yet he and his wife Claire are still not happy with their lot.
With an eighth child on the way, they are demanding a bigger house, courtesy of the taxpayer.
Yes, demanding! Isn’t life great in Great Britain???

If Pakistanis didn’t commit terrorists acts against the US, or harbor terrorists, or privately sympathize with them, US attitudes toward them might change. As it is now, “treating Pakistanis like animals” [which is hyperbolic at best] is necessary to our survival.
Who knew they went to college?
The United Kingdom’s days are numbered very, very small.
Our engineering universites are choked with foreigners, especially in graduate schools. I see resumes probably 3 to 1 foreigner to US Citizen.
This thread muddles several issues. If people from anywhere want to get educated here and go back to their home countries to use their degree I have no probs. They bring money into our economy.
Islam and terror are other issues that have to be dealt with robustly in other ways. Heck, arguably the UK is already a world leader in supporting Islamic Jihad.
My nephew is a grad student in ME. He said universities overwhelmingly prefer foreign students because they pay full freight, and can be easily bullied by their department heads for all sorts of unpaid extra coolie labor. America is still the top destination for science and engineering students.
You are correct. One thing I didn’t mention that many of the professors are naturalized citizens too. And, they prefer to have non-US grad students who will do the schlep work for their grants and contracts while they enjoy the professorial lifestyle (travel, papers, etc.).
Who knew that secondary education was required to manufacture IED's???
Thanks to the Internet, they don’t need to come to America anymore to get the education they need to design nukes and IEDs. The Arabs have duped you Pakis to do their dirty work by coercing you into their gutter “religion”, stay the hell out!
Excellent!
Let's go one better and send ALL these Pakistanis elsewhere. That way, we get fewer suicide bombers.
The theory that having middle eastern students attend our universities will influence them to become friends of America is false.
It neglects to realize that our universities are not friends of America.
