Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron and another Canadian who built submersibles for the director's 1989 thriller "The Abyss" joined talks on Tuesday in Washington on innovative ways of capping the Gulf of Mexico oil spill... Cameron made two documentaries about the wreck of the ocean liner Titanic prior to filming his 1997 blockbuster Hollywood movie "Titanic."
He used a small fleet of specially designed remotely operated underwater vehicles and is regarded as an expert in the field.

Hey everybody, look over here!!!! I am relevant and important !!!!
On the other hand if his bankroll and ego can be leveraged to stop this, have at it. I suspect he’ll be a nuisance.
This man is a director, not an oceanographer.
Perhaps he has a favorite for the Belmont stakes?
Oh that’s right, he’s not a bookie either.
Yeah he can help,James make 10 cups cream and sugar then sit in the corner.
They could sink Rosie O’Donnell to sit on the pipe while Ellen DeGeneres laps dances.
Isn’t all he has to do is shout “CUT and WRAP”?
And this is reported with earnestness and enthusiasm by the MFM.
Our Republic is doomed.
Oh, I feel MUCH better now.
The Government sues and brings in Hollywood Leftards instead of working on a fix.
Screw these maggots.
Send Algore down with the blue people and make it a happy place that spews Skittles and rainbows.
If Obama can get Cameron to make a movie about the spill being pluged then as far as dims’ are concerned it’s plugged!
Perhaps they can stick his head in the hole and plug it. It’s big enough.
“I’m an expert in underwater vehicles, therefore I can cap damaged oil wells!”
About as relevant as, “I am really good at reading stuff off teleprompters, therefore I will make a really good president!”

Other celebrity appointments:
1) Alan Alda/Mike Farrell on the Korean Crisis
2) Ex President Martin Sheen as super secret presidential adviser
3) George Lopez on Immigration Reform
4) Michael Moore on Heath care Reform
5) Leonardo DiCaprio on Aviation Safety because he once played Howard Hughes
6) Sean Penn on prison reform because he once played a death row inmate
I think you’re on to something there.
So when there’s a looming asteroid disaster, it’s safe to assume Barry will call Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck to the rescue?
I was wondering how long it would take before some Hollywood talking head brought up Cameron's The Abyss in this context, and lookee what I find!
I'm still waiting for my anamorphic widescreen DVD or blu-ray, James.
And Russ Meyers too.
I am disgusted.
Even if this were true, that was 15 years ago. Surely the technology has improved since then.
I’d advise to let Michael Moore sink into that gigantic leak.
I bet it will work. Two birds. One stone.
Ok...yup...I see the logic...I think....
I imagine he has oceanographers on his payroll.
Where’s Clive Cussler?
Big Oil + Big Government + Big Hollywood. What could possibly go wrong? /sarc
Wasn’t it Cameron’s brother that did most of the “Engineering” for Titanic’s underwater filming?
At this point, I don’t see what’s wrong with asking anyone that has had any experience doing big projects underwater, to pitch in. Outside of the oil companies, I can’t think of many that have any experience doing large undersea projects. Does anyone know of any other agency or organisation that has any experience like this, that hasn’t been approached for help?
Who can post the picture of Mr. Beanatar?
I guess they indulge in magical thinking when they smoke crack.

actually..that was my favorite line in the whole flick..
Fiction, meet reality.
He has abilities and destiny on his side.
Don’t forget Alf as NASA administrator.
This guy may be a talented director, but personally, he is your typical Hollywood Godless dirtbag.
So....you REALLY think a Hollywood producer/director..has any clue about fixing a leak...that the EXPERTS are having problems with?

James Cameron: deepsea submersible expert
GAD!!! Why not call Ballard of any of a number of US Navy personnel.
Oh, I forgot.
They never directed a film with off-planet smurfs.
He does have experience with large scale undersea operations, doesn’t he?
He filmed a MOVIE!~!
Was it filmed in a pool???
Was it filmed 5,000 feet beneath the surface???
Do you really think that ocean rift scene was REAL???
Uncle Joe and Commandante Fidel would not have done it any different.
CORRECTION: any different = any differently
The only way Cameron can plug something that big is with his ego.
I have no idea what his real experience is or if he could help at all. I just am not the kind of person that sits around waiting for some one person to do something. If there is anyone that could possibly help, I’m certainly willing to let them try. I believe in thinking outside of the box, cube, sphere or whatever container. Help/solutions sometimes comes from the least expected source.
I suppose it was inevitable that the Clueless WH Usurer would turn to the fantasy of Hollywood for fantasy engineering solutions.
