White House Responds To CBO's Brutal Health Care Takedown -- Claims Reform Was Never Going To Save Us

OMB Director Peter Orszag just posted a response to a brutal fiscal analysis of health care reform by CBO Director Doug Elmendorf.

Orszag's response is conciliatory, saying the White House never said the health care reform would solve the unsustainable budget deficit -- although many think this was Obama's claim.

But Orszag's says Elmendorf underestimates the fundamental changes reform will bring:

The fact that more action must be taken on the deficit even after enactment of the Affordable Care Act, however, is a distinct question from whether the health legislation helps to improve our fiscal course — which it does.

In particular, CBO estimates that the Act will reduce the deficit by more than $100 billion over the next ten years and more than $1 trillion in the ten years after that. That’s more deficit reduction than has been enacted in over a decade.

Perhaps more importantly, the Act has the potential to fundamentally transform our health system into one that delivers better care at lower cost. This potential isn’t fully captured in CBO’s numbers, and that’s appropriate. CBO produces its estimates based on what has happened in the past, and we have never enacted such a fundamental transformation.

"This potential isn’t fully captured in CBO’s numbers..."

But then they like to deal in those boring facts -- while WE peddle "hope".

The CBO's original estimates predicting savings were a joke and most people knew it. Enough of this "revising" the estimates...they FREAKIN' LIED. Not only that, it was done maliciously to get the last few votes (among all the other illegal things they did). The CBO estimate projecting savings gave a "yes" voter something to fall back on politically (or so they thought).

Every 'yes' vote needs to go, no matter what they've done before or since the vote.

... the White House never said the health care reform would solve the unsustainable budget deficit

They most certainly did. Just two quotes from Obamas Health Care speech on 3/20/10:

... And number four, this is the biggest reduction in our deficit since the Budget Balance Act -- one of the biggest deficit reduction measures in history -- over $1.3 trillion that will help put us on the path of fiscal responsibility.

... And by the way, not only does it reduce the deficit -- we pay for it responsibly in ways that the other side of the aisle that talks a lot about fiscal responsibility but doesn't seem to be able to walk the walk can't claim when it comes to their prescription drug bill. We are actually doing it. (Applause.) This is paid for and will not add a dime to the deficit -- it will reduce the deficit.

From Huffington Post (I just love it when the enemy provides the ammunition).

You are correct to feel that way.

This whole administration is total confusion.

THE ONLY way that makes sense is to realize that they are lying and doing and saying anything to implment their socialist agenda.

Then and only then to all the lies and distortions make sense.

So it’s going to cost more than Democrats promised it would ??

Well suppose you promised a new entitlement to the poor and lower middle class funded by taxing the ‘rich’(small business owners..basically someone else) , then you added millions of newly legalized illegals.....do you think they will join those pulling the cart(paying for it) , or those in the cart(signing up for free benefits)? And what does that do to the CBO numbers?

Save that html on your hard drive--I wouldn't put it past Hussein's cultists at HuffPo to delete that reference.

Obama speeches are recorded in many places so I'm not too worried.
Huffpo is just the site the search engine picked for me.
I would not have looked there otherwise.
