(CNN) -- Ted Haggard, the megachurch pastor and former National Association of Evangelicals chief whose career was undone by a gay prostitution and drugs scandal in 2006, plans to start a new church.

Standing in front of his barn, Haggard and his family announced Wednesday that they are starting a church in Colorado Springs, Colorado called Saint James.

The church will not be affiliated with any denomination. It will have its first gathering Sunday at the Haggard home.

I’m sure Ted has repented and has been forgiven, but I can’t imagine that God wants Ted to be placed into the same position where he previously gave in to temptation.

But God ways are not my ways, I won’t judge him.

You can tell a tree by its fruit. What’s done in the dark will be made known in the light.

It will be plain soon enough if Ted is really following the Lord, or is doing this for his advancement.

It is so sad that the Christian Church has come to the point where just the words “Jesus is my personal Savior” makes others cringe.

Ted-
I can’t say what God is calling you to do...but I have a hard time believing He wants you preaching the gospel. Can’t you serve Him better by doing something else?

How are you surethat “Ted has repented and has been forgiven”? When this sodomite still thinks he is entitled to a position of leadership within the church? At this point, just how is that evidence of anything but arrogance? If he has truly repented he would probably recognize that he has to find a different way to serve.

Forgiveness is what Grace is all about. Hopefully he and God got things straightened out.

Forgiveness, however, does not mean he should ever again be permitted to hold a leadership position. He may be qualified to lead a reformed-gay ministry ... but he is not qualified to lead a church.

I posted that I was sure that he repented, meaning that I don’t know but I would think he would do that initially above all else. How does anyone know if God has told him to find a different way to serve? That is what “I” would say, but I am not God. God didn’t tell David he couldn’t continue as King once he committed adultery and had Bathsheba’s husband killed. He stayed in that position.

Pastors aren’t Kings, and Haggard isn’t David. Moreover, God isn’t whispering in people’s ears telling them what to do. The Apostalic Age is over. Anyone hearing voices today has mental problems. As for Haggard, he is morally unfit for the pulpit. If he were to spend 10 or 15 years demonstrating his repentance, perhaps he could resume his former role. As it stands, like Swaggart before him, Haggard is just trying to salvage his ability to make a living in the only line of work he knows before people forget who he is.

God gave us His Word (the Bible) to guide us, and we can use situations from ancient times to help us know what to do today, i.e. David not being removed from his position for adultery and murder.

God is able to talk to his people. He is manifest in creation, His Word, and His Son Jesus. We can talk to Him through prayer.

Anyone believing that God does not still engage with His people has mental problems.

As for Haggard, I will not judge him, just hope he is doing God’s will.

You have reading comprehension problems that you should resolve before you post. I said NOTHING about anything as vague as “engagement”. Anyone believing that God is speaking directly to him vocally today has a serious problem. The Apostolic Age is closed.

As for the David analogy, let’s play a game to see how good the analogy is. You can list all of the ways in which Haggard plays the role assigned David in God’s plan of redemption, and I get to list the ways in which he doesn’t.

Wow, someone spit in your Cherios this morning. No, I never use my faith to agitate anyone. Simply pointing out that most Christian are rightly compelled to testify to The Truth. The truth is I am not ashamed of The Gospel and happily share what Christ did for me and others at any chance I get. I don't agitate people, I'm actually a very happy person. BTW, I sincerely will pray for you and that is not a jab at irritating you.

Actually no. My Salvation comes only through the Grace from Christ and not by any works from me - ie my actions.

For it's by Grace through Faith in Christ alone that we are saved and not by our works so that no man may boast. Eph 2:8-9.

I would never tempt fate by committing sins of thought and deed and expect salvation.

But is is your free will, your soul, and I wish you justice.

I still do not understand why after meeting someone for the first time they feel compelled to tell me their religious beliefs; and if one takes Eph 2:8-9 literally it seems a moot point.
