The White House ordered BP to pay for construction of five more large sections of Louisiana barrier island sand berms Wednesday as efforts to contain the gushing Deepwater Horizon oil spill hit more obstacles and the slick approached Florida.

Speaking from the coastal town of Venice, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said he had just heard from the White House that BP would be required to pay for the work. Although the projects had already passed expedited environmental approval, the administration also needed to determine whether the work would actually stop oil from entering the marshlands.

"There is no time for waiting," Jindal said. "We are asking the Coast Guard and the federal government to force BP to act responsibly and immediately get to work on all the six segments that have now been approved as part of our oil spill-fighting efforts."

Unless I am mistaken, BP has already stated that they will pay for all clean up. Sounds to me like the President is just taking the credit for it.

But if Holder ties them up in court with all the lawsuits that are coming, where will the money come from??? BP will declare bankruptcy and that will be the end of any clean up efforts.

I am fine with BP paying for it, and it sounds like they already offered. The fed government has no right to order jack crap.

Last I heard, BP made over $70 Billion last year alone.

They have lost $60 billion in market cap since this mess started. Look for them to be taken over...

Typical Gov't bureaucracy. Maybe they should convene a committee and report back in 6 months with their findings before taking any action.

Remember zero said he has to approve everything. Or at least he said that when he thought the “junk shot” was working last Friday.
