US to probe American death in Israeli raid

"We will look into the circumstances of the death of an American citizen, as we would do anywhere in the world at all times," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters.

Crowley declined to specify who is "evaluating the facts" surrounding the death of the dual US-Turkish national, whom he identified as Furkan Dogan, a 19-year-old born in Troy, New York.

"We have officials at a variety of levels here and in Israel," he said, adding they were in contact with Israeli officials and the family of the deceased.

When asked if the FBI would be involved, he replied: "At this point, no."

Crowley said the Federal Bureau of Investigation might become involved if the US government launched a more formal inquiry.

"Anytime an American is killed overseas, we have the option of evaluating the circumstances and if we think a crime has been committed, then, working with the host government, we have the option of our own investigation," he said.

"We are evaluating the facts as we can best ascertain them and, based on that evaluation of the information that's available, we have a variety of options that are available to us," Crowley said.

The Turkish government confirmed Thursday that eight Turks and a US national of Turkish origin were shot dead in an Israeli raid before dawn Monday on Gaza-bound aid ships.

A statement by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office released the identities of the nine victims, all men aged between 19 and 61, the youngest of whom was the Turk with US citizenship. ....

Crowley said US consular officials visited an Israeli morgue to view the bodies of those killed in the raid, but he was not aware that US officials had seen Dogan once he had been identified as a dual US-Turkish national.

"We will look into the circumstances of the death of an American citizen, as we would do anywhere in the world at all times," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters.

They are claiming he was a dual citizen and that his parents left this country.

Can we see a birth certificate before we go around calling him an American?

I think we should do this, and if one of our alleged citizens are injured, we should pass a law giving their citizenship to their chosen country.

Too bad Robert Krentz won’t get nearly as much ‘investigation’.

“once he had been identified as a dual US-Turkish national”

He’s as American as Obama’s auntie.

His parents were turkeys and they took him home at age two.

Maybe we can get some answers from the State Department about our turkey as well.

These sons of expletive deleted expletive deleted expletive deleted mother expletive deleted expletive deleted jerks, can’t even grasp that Israel was within it’s rights to enforce a naval blockade, but they think they can discern the truth of how this young man died. Evidently the videos available aren’t clear enough to explain it.

Brother, do we have some dimwits in the White House.

I have seen absolutely no evidence that he was an American citizen. Sure, he was born here, but he returned to Turkey with his parents at the age of two. Has he ever been back to the US, and upon reaching the age of majority, has he ever exercised his rights of citizenship? Does he have a passport? Has the 19-year old filed a tax return? Does he have a Social Security Number? Am I the only one who’s curious about these questions?

I read here on FR this Furkan Dogan dude was 2 years old when his parents moved back to Turkey.

Now the Chicago mafia is going to make a big deal out of his being a U.S. citizen.

Oh well. Never mind. I am just so sick of this circus.

"Somehow I doubt he was registered with selective service."

Thank you. Of course, that's even an easier one. He is 19, after all. Is there a single reporter either smart enough or honest enough to ask these questions? Probably not.

For some reason, Hussein doesn’t show equal concern about the Americans murdered by invaders, kidnappers and drug dealers swarming across our southern border.

That's because a browner one shooting a whiter one is justice.

When a whiter one shoots a browner one, it's an international incident.

I don’t care about his nationality. He was killed during a lawful attempt
by the Israeli military to enforce a blockade. There is no evidence
he was singled out due to his nationality.
