Sex and the Saudi
The Washington Times ^ | June 4, 2010 | Editorial

Posted on 06/03/2010 5:34:05 PM PDT by Abakumov

Critics are assailing the new movie "Sex and the City 2" for its portrayal of liberated American women visiting the uptight Middle East. The movie's depiction of superficial Westerners violating the region's cultural taboos is allegedly so off-color it has been described as racist, offensive and a potential al Qaeda recruiting tool.

Despite denouncing such films as symbols of Western cultural decadence, many in the Middle East would love to emulate what they see on the silver screen - and a fair portion of the educated classes secretly do. Punishment can be harsh for conduct the West would consider youthful exuberance. Last year, for example, Mazen Abdul-Jawad, bragged about his sexual exploits on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation program "Bold Red Line" and was sentenced to five years in prison plus a thousand lashes....

While "Sex and the City 2" is certainly not America's finest cultural export, it may be our most useful. As Muslims criticize it publicly, women in the Middle East will watch the pirated DVD in their homes with the blinds drawn, dreaming of expensive shoes, designer handbags and freedom.

"plus a thousand lashes."

A thousand lashes? Would the average person survive a thousand lashes? That has to be a typo.

I saw it. I didn't like the feeling it gave me...made me only see the decadence...couldn't enjoy any of the fashion because it was crude and overdone. Maybe I've grown up, but I thought it was just ugly. I was uncomfortable watching this movie. The only one I could relate to is Big. Thank goodness for HIM in this movie.

I was also embarrassed to think that other people of the world would see this and thing ALL American women were this shallow.

Like I say...maybe I've just grown up....

They don’t give them all at once.

...racist, offensive and a potential al Qaeda recruiting tool.

Well I never thought I'd approve of tripe like the movie in question, but maybe it is useful after all.

For mouthing off on “Bold Red Line” he now gets a thousand bold red lines across his back.

One way to discourage the promotion of promiscuity as an admirable trait I suppose.

And yes, they met out such punishments in that part of the world. They do not call it “chop chop” square for nothing.

But as others have pointed out, they keep him alive long enough to get his thousand lashes. No doubt those who administer them are quite professional about their day to day drudgery in exacting pain from human flesh and severing limbs.

From something I read somewhere, such punishments may be doled out piecemeal over time.

Oh come on, what’s wrong with a Christian nation founded on liberty, freedom and libido making a porn movie starring four real-life whores fornicating with muslim terrorists? I ask you!

>I was also embarrassed to think that other people of the world would see this and thing ALL American women were this shallow<

And if everyone around the world watched nothing but HGTV and Food Network, they’d think all Americans are gay!

It’s a reflection of what the commies want America to be.

It’s too bad that so many people watch this stuff, think it’s cool and want to be like the morally bankrupt “heroes” of tv and movies.

A terrorist recruiting tool? Nonsense! Only evil bushites and Americas military can do that. These are simply whores, whoring around, acting like whores.

Bringing it back to the parents, now. If kids aren’t either taught or reinforcing class...they’re not going to magically “get it.”
