McALLEN, Texas -- Two Mexican nationals caught in Texas with 147 assault rifles, 10,000 rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines and bayonets have started serving short federal sentences after pleading guilty to entering the U.S. illegally.
Federal prosecutors released the names of Damaso Alberto Rueda Cabrera and Arnulfo de la Cruz Sanchez on Thursday along with the unusual announcement that the men made their initial appearances in federal court, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to terms of 10 days and 45 days, respectively, all on Tuesday.
In a prepared statement, U.S. Attorney Jose Angel Moreno said the investigation continued and no further comment would be made by any of the agencies involved. U.S. District Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker sentenced both men. Marissa Perez-Garcia, head of the federal public defenders office in Laredo, said she had no comment on the case.
Laredo police pulled over the two men Saturday afternoon. Police said it was the biggest weapons seizure in the area in years and that while the investigation was ongoing, it appeared clear the guns were destined for Mexico.
De la Cruz, 53, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, waded across the Rio Grande into Laredo on May 28, according to court records.
Rueda, 20, of Reynosa, Mexico, was the driver and had been in the U.S. since illegally crossing the border Dec. 15, 2008, according to court records.

This has to be the third or fourth story I have read on the subject and not one has any details on the assault rifles. They could be Daisy BB rifles for all I know.
There was speculation that this was a false flag/provocateur operation and I think this confirms it.

The news on the radio this morning was that these two illegals were attempting to smuggle the weapons from here into Mexico. Yeah right. More likely, they brought them over the river to Texas but that would not fit the media’s prepared story line.
Oh as to their sentence, Ramos and Campeon, US border patrol agents were sentenced to 10 and 11 years in federal prison for shooting a known drug trafficer in the ass.

This limp little slap on the wrist sure doesn't equate to punishment designed to discourage this from happening again, does it? I am so concerned. Twice now in the past six months Bruce and our men have been plowing in Batesville and have personally witnessed illegals walking through the field with one of the groups wearing some kind of uniform. The first and last man of one group were carrying rifles and the six men in the middle were carrying backpacks (most likely drugs). The second group had two men with rifles and three men with backpacks . Of course, Bruce and our guys did not approach them. It would be NO PROBLEM to bring in any nuclear, biological or bomb device across the border. There have been many other groups spotted throughout the year.
Our border patrol work hard but they cannot keep up. The border runners are getting too smart. Out of fear, we no longer work at night when we get behind in our work. These guys are getting rides somewhere and going on into Texas and other parts of the US . Pickup sites have usually been plastic bags or a milk jug hanging on a fence post. We don't worry so much about the hard working guys coming over. We understand their desire for work, but we are scared to death of the drug pushers and the OTMs (other than Mexicans) that are pouring over the border. The government could stop this............they just will not.
Our American kids and families are being destroyed because of all the drugs. Parents should be OUTRAGED. Cities should be concerned about bombs and other devices. One of these days, the bad guys are going to get it right again. But you know, the general public believes if it doesn't hit in their backyard why should they be concerned? We can control our Canadian border so why can't we control our southern borders? Saving grace with Mexico is not as important as saving American lives and families.........You know, if everybody played by the rules, we would all get along. This idea is universal. It is the one thing that all people of the world understand.........or at least most of them. I truly wish our politicians could understand this.
