McALLEN, Texas -- Two Mexican nationals caught in Texas with 147 assault rifles, 10,000 rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines and bayonets have started serving short federal sentences after pleading guilty to entering the U.S. illegally.
Federal prosecutors released the names of Damaso Alberto Rueda Cabrera and Arnulfo de la Cruz Sanchez on Thursday along with the unusual announcement that the men made their initial appearances in federal court, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to terms of 10 days and 45 days, respectively, all on Tuesday.
In a prepared statement, U.S. Attorney Jose Angel Moreno said the investigation continued and no further comment would be made by any of the agencies involved. U.S. District Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker sentenced both men. Marissa Perez-Garcia, head of the federal public defenders office in Laredo, said she had no comment on the case.
Laredo police pulled over the two men Saturday afternoon. Police said it was the biggest weapons seizure in the area in years and that while the investigation was ongoing, it appeared clear the guns were destined for Mexico.
De la Cruz, 53, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, waded across the Rio Grande into Laredo on May 28, according to court records.
Rueda, 20, of Reynosa, Mexico, was the driver and had been in the U.S. since illegally crossing the border Dec. 15, 2008, according to court records.

Assault rifles? Bayonets? Sounds more like a case of foreign invasion than illegal immigration.
Soooooooo...how did they get SOUTH of the border to only be IMPORTED (illegally) north of the border in the first place? Aren’t we the ones fueling the guns south of the border???
10 days and 45 days? I wonder how long a citizen convicted of possessing such an illegal/unregistered arsenal would get?
1. Truckload of assault weapons
2. Cartels threaten to detonate dam
How much more obvious could it be that we’re being INVADED..?
Clear and present danger since YEARS AGO.
This story needs to be followed. Did the guns originate in Mexico or the US? Journalism has sunk to a new low when you know less than you did when you started reading the article than when you were done.
Who, What, When, Where, How..is it so difficult?
That headline is confusing. INTO the US? Did they bring them in here or were they taking them to Mexico?
As you say, this story should be followed. My bet is a major new corridor is about to open and its going to be bloody in the process.

Corporate Media is Criminal Media operating for the sole purpose propaganda and mind/social control, reporting truth or fact is entirely secondary in priority.
Ain’t this JUST GREAT?!
These anti-American leftists want to blame us—that’s US!—for Mexico’s wretched disfunction, and now, here’s a “conveniently” ready-made case to try to show that America is the big, bad ol’ gun-provider. And, these poor, downtrodden “migrant workers” were only unwitting mules who get a little short slap on the wrist with good meals three times a day.
I’m SICK of this BULL!! Get these invading interlopers OUT of OUR country!! Shut down the southern border!
Sorry to everyone for posting a confusing article. I guess the motto here should be "We report, you try to figure it out".
This has to be the third or fourth story I have read on the subject and not one has any details on the assault rifles. They could be Daisy BB rifles for all I know.
There was speculation that this was a false flag/provocateur operation and I think this confirms it.
LOL! Last thing I heard of these guys, they were headed INTO Mexico...
please tell me there’s a typo in the number of DAYS they got???
Hell’s bells, what do you have to do to get a decent sentence around here??
The news on the radio this morning was that these two illegals were attempting to smuggle the weapons from here into Mexico. Yeah right. More likely, they brought them over the river to Texas but that would not fit the media’s prepared story line.
Oh as to their sentence, Ramos and Campeon, US border patrol agents were sentenced to 10 and 11 years in federal prison for shooting a known drug trafficer in the ass.
Same ol same ol. And they wonder why the civilian population is arming up.
Smoke a cigarette in a non-designated area maybe...
These weapons came from the US originally, as anyone knows. These Mexican dudes were just trying to return them to their rightful owners. Ya see, that’s a big theme with 0bama and his pals.
10 days and 45 days?

Give them just enough time to rest up, learn some new tricks, get a haircut, physical, get a little dental work done and make new connections on the inside.
Is this a great country or what.
Diss a democrat politician.
I’m wondering what kind of “details” you require on 147 “assault rifles” and 10,000 rounds of ammunition being transported WHERE EVER in our country by ILLEGAL aliens. You want to know the brand/model of the “assault rifles?”
I kinda doubt the “assault rifles” are BB guns.
Don’t try to understand the story based on the headline. Really. I mean it. Just don’t.
It’s just one huge weapons swap-a-rama, I say.
Thanks for the ping!
“You want to know the brand/model of the assault rifles?”
Yes, as a matter of fact I do. I have seen the media in action in past years on this issue. I don’t trust them one bit.
LOL! Mexican circular fire drill... ‘-)
Say what? Poor journalism yet again or the original story misreported?
"Yes, as a matter of fact I do. I have seen the media in action in past years on this issue. I dont trust them one bit."
The Media:"High-powered assault rifle revolver deadly shotgun cop-killer machine gun"
“Diss a democrat politician.”
We should start a new campaign. Everytime you see one of these lying schmucks, shout “You Suck!” ... and walk away.
“World’s worst prisons”
this is bs.
I would buy one if they are real for some $ and keep it in the closet. With ammo. Wouldn't you?
I still can't believe that these two criminals were only sentenced to 10 and 45 days. They were obviously involved in serious criminal activity.

Good going Obama
For 147 assault weapons and 10,000 rounds of ammo, what do you think the average US citizen would be sentenced for the same thing? This limp little slap on the wrist sure doesn't equate to punishment designed to discourage this from happening again, does it? Also, it smacks of media irresponsibility because here we have illegals transporting weapons INTO the USA instead of the way Hillary, Calderon and the rest of the democrat anti-gun movement wants us to believe is the usual weapons smuggling methodology.
10 days and 45 days? I wonder how long a citizen convicted of possessing such an illegal/unregistered arsenal would get?””
45 years ???
A farmers wife who is concerned for her husband's safety wrote the following: (I do know this lady. She is a retired school teacher)
I am so concerned. Twice now in the past six months Bruce and our men have been plowing in Batesville and have personally witnessed illegals walking through the field with one of the groups wearing some kind of uniform. The first and last man of one group were carrying rifles and the six men in the middle were carrying backpacks (most likely drugs). The second group had two men with rifles and three men with backpacks . Of course, Bruce and our guys did not approach them. It would be NO PROBLEM to bring in any nuclear, biological or bomb device across the border. There have been many other groups spotted throughout the year.
Our border patrol work hard but they cannot keep up. The border runners are getting too smart. Out of fear, we no longer work at night when we get behind in our work. These guys are getting rides somewhere and going on into Texas and other parts of the US . Pickup sites have usually been plastic bags or a milk jug hanging on a fence post. We don't worry so much about the hard working guys coming over. We understand their desire for work, but we are scared to death of the drug pushers and the OTMs (other than Mexicans) that are pouring over the border. The government could stop this............they just will not.
Our American kids and families are being destroyed because of all the drugs. Parents should be OUTRAGED. Cities should be concerned about bombs and other devices. One of these days, the bad guys are going to get it right again. But you know, the general public believes if it doesn't hit in their backyard why should they be concerned? We can control our Canadian border so why can't we control our southern borders? Saving grace with Mexico is not as important as saving American lives and families.........You know, if everybody played by the rules, we would all get along. This idea is universal. It is the one thing that all people of the world understand.........or at least most of them. I truly wish our politicians could understand this.
I don't see Perry doing much until after his election in November.
What?? I thought we were shipping them into Mexico...not them bringing them here? Lied to again?
“10 days and 45 days? I wonder how long a citizen convicted of possessing such an illegal/unregistered arsenal would get?”
Amazing...If it were me or any American, one wouldn’t see the light of day until the year 2304.
Boy, if that isn’t the question of the day!
You and I would miss a generation with our families if we were caught doing this.
Illegal gun running? Seriously, is there a bigger offense in the mind of the BATF?
I’m used to seeing illegals get free everything, but now they don’t even have to answer to the same justice system we do?
U.S. Citizens are less than zero these days.
Shoot someone who’s trying to mug you.
They must have bought them at a Mexican gun show.
They were merely "mules" hired to drive the truck into Mexico.
The US authorities will probably never catch who actually bought the goods in the US and the Mexican authorities will probably never catch those who would have received the goods.
