Posted on 06/04/2010 5:32:02 AM PDT by C19fan
Total nonfarm payroll employment grew by 431,000 in May, reflecting the hiring of 411,000 temporary employees to work on Census 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Private-sector employment changed little (+41,000). Manufacturing, temporary help ser- vices, and mining added jobs, while construction employment declined. The unemployment rate edged down to 9.7 percent.

Not even the census hirings are correct because they hired and fired the same people over and over to bump the numbers.
This is hugh and series!
All the analysts have been crowing the last couple days that there would be 500,000+ jobs created with 150,000+ in the private sector are feeling mighty stupid now.
Unexpected, hee hee.
Most of the jobs created were census jobs and government workers.
A drop in the bucket for private sector jobs.
And they say the economy is recovering? Hah! What a load of horseshit.
Weren’t the “experts” predicting over 500k jobs created?
In other news, 431,000-411,000= 41,000 according to the BLS.
Not generally within the same month. But 600K temporary census hires are almost half a percent of our entire workforce, so take that crutch out and unemployment continues to worsen.
As a previous poster mentioned, they thought there would be around 150K private sector jobs plus the 400k Census related.
More smoke and mirrors. All the average moronic American will see is the 9.7% unem rate which the MSM will be happy to report. And that’s ALL they will report.
411,000 “temporary” Census worker jobs! Can’t be good!
Govt sector jobs UP 390,000 in May.
Several months ago, Stuart Varney of FoxNews said that the economy would have to be creating 200,000 jobs per week (non-governmental) to have any impact on the jobless numbers.
New UE’s are still close to half-a-million per week.
How’s that hope and change working out?
A big difference between 400k plus and 300k. Epic Obami FAIL!
Part of the drop in unemployment rate was due to discouraged workers. The labor force dropped by 322K.
431,000 is NON-FARM payroll. I’m assuming the 41,000 includes FARM payroll.
June 4 — Employers in the U.S. hired fewer workers in May than forecast, showing a lack of confidence in the recovery that may lead to slower economic growth.
Payrolls rose by 431,000 last month after a 290,000 increase in April, figures from the Labor Department in Washington showed today. The gain was smaller than the 536,000 median forecast.
“More smoke and mirrors. All the average moronic American will see is the 9.7% unem rate which the MSM will be happy to report. And thats ALL they will report.”
Precisely. This, combined with the unending unemployment insurance is to keep the populace form seeing the big picture. I not the UE benefits were only extended to the elections, that way if the libsget voted out of office, the problem will be dumped into the lap of the incoming Congress.
It’s sick that people won’t pay more attention. We’re in the destabilization phase up to our chests, and next (According to Griffen) comes the Crisis phase. It’s sad really. We’ve gotta prepare ourselves, no one else can.
Futures are already down 186 on this news. Imagine how bad it would be if they didn’t have the census to boost the May numbers?
I can’t imagine that the average American will be impressed with the official unemployment rate....
More people are actively searching for nonexistent jobs, first-time unemployment claims are continuing unabated and the hundreds of thousands of census workers know their jobs are temporary.
Very serious! Drudge has the siren up!
Damn, we need more stimulus, how else are we gonna get out of our unemployment problem? Not to worry, we are all have health insurance.
Can’t wait to see the numbers when they’re laid off.
I bet a lot of the ‘20K’ people that were hired were summer help, and temps for vaca coverage etc.
“More people are actively searching for nonexistent jobs”
Sadly, I read an article that described this as hopeful, becaus eit meant that more people moved from the U6 over to whatever they use now, because they started looking for more jobs, so even though they make the unemployment numbers go higher, they (according to the writer), show that the situation isn’t so bleak.
I’ve never heard such nonsense in my life.
The census is scheduled to start laying off these temporary census workers by the end of July. My prediction is that democrats with the help of the MSM are going to start a drumbeat about census turnout still being to low. Then they will approve "emergency" funding to keep these census temps sitting on the federal payroll until after the November elections.
Yes, think Hershey Park, Busch Gardens, life guards, etc....
It’s called political SPIN.
Putting lipstick on a pig.
Reminds me of a Groucho line. “If you look at it, it’s a barn, if you smell it, it’s a stable.”
I’m perplexed. Biden said the economic stimulus is working wonderfully.
How can this be ????
dripping sarc /
That is why all must cooperate with the census. Just don’t give them any information they do not need like how much money you make. Besides the feds already know that anyway (the IRS, remember?)
More job losses coming in Gulf Coast over the next six months. Unemployment could easily exceed 10 percent by Nov 2.
Every government “job” created is actually a negative on the real economy.
I thought I heard one analyst say there would 750,000 jobs created. Not even close.
The other 41,000 were people trailing behind census workers with carts who sold donuts, coffee and hot dogs.
As I posted yesterday : 41K private sector jobs per month at ~ 147 billion $ borrowed (4.9 billion borrowed per day.) "If you take an average across a 30 day month that's 147 billion $ debt for the 55K jobs (using this peak number in his favor) or 2.6 Million dollars per private sector job created." #10
More than 20,000 people in the workforce DIE each month and must be replaced.
To have the very lowest caliber president imaginable at this time is a travesty.
Reminds me of a Groucho line. If you look at it, its a barn, if you smell it, its a stable.
Made me smile.
In spades! Agreed!

Whachoo doin, boy?
Who told ya to run dem numbers????
Well, in all hyperbole and fairness, I’m willing to bet that the stimulus is doing exactly what those who pushed it through wanted it to do: line their (and their friends) pockets, while seeling us down the river.
Exactly. That was the intended purpose all along.
Job creation was the excuse to get it passed, not the fact and not the purpose.
But then what could we all expect when NOBODY IN CONGRESS READS THE !@#$%^&*! BILL!
You wont see the CBO run those numbers.
“We’ve got to pass it to find out what’s in it,” you know.
” You wont see the CBO run those numbers. “
Oh, HELL no!!
411,000 census workers? Holy Crap!
