EDITORIAL: FTC floats Drudge tax

Journalism can reinvent itself without government 'help'

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking ways to "reinvent" journalism, and that's a cause for concern. According to a May 28 draft proposal, the agency thinks government should be at the center of a media overhaul. The bureaucracy sees it as a problem that the Internet has introduced a wealth of information options to consumers, forcing media companies to adapt and experiment to meet changing market needs. FTC's policy staff fears this new reality.

"There are reasons for concern that experimentation may not produce a robust and sustainable business model for commercial journalism," the report states. With no faith that the market will work things out for the better, government thinks it must come to the rescue.

Yeah but most of them do not work, live on their parents expense, or live on welfare. It is always easy for someone to ask for more taxes when someone does not pay taxes.

“Though the mainstream media are nothing more than a
mouthpiece for this administration”

They have been nothing more than a mouthpiece for the left for decades.

Even in FDR’s time, they wore out set after set of kneepads.

Since the early 1980s, I have held that the media are some of the Constitution’s most dangerous enemies. Naturally, Chairman Maobama wants to keep them alive, and is willing to spend any amount of your money to do it.

“The Internet has made owning an extremely powerful press very cheap, which concerns those whose power is based on presses being rare and expensive.”

Very well said, indeed.

Me steal.

Who’s John Gault?

A character in a book by Ayn Rand -- and it's spelled Galt.

Or, were you being facetious?

Freedom of the press presumes ownership of a press. The Internet has made owning an extremely powerful press very cheap, which concerns those whose power is based on presses being rare and expensive

What you are describing is distribution of content. That is what they want to control, the distribution. It doesn't matter what someone says if no one hears it. It is very similar to Joe Stalin's comment that it doesn't matter who votes, it only matters who counts the votes.

There are reasons for concern that experimentation may not produce a robust and sustainable business model for commercial journalism," the report states. With no faith that the market will work things out for the better, government thinks it must come to the rescue.

There is no better example of the Leftist Elite's attitude. They don't understand the market and they don't trust the individual. They trust a few coordinated bureaucrats, as long as it is their bureaucrats, more than they trust the uncoordinated decisions of millions of individuals.

R. Buckminster Fuller said that free enterprise has the unique ability to transform the selfish desires of the individual into a good for the whole. Don't know who R. Buckminster Fuller is? Look it up. You will be impressed!

Yup. I’ve got it set up as an actual bumper sticker here: http://www.zazzle.com/liberalism_defined_bumper_sticker-128202017737005207?gl=oceander

(I use the zazzle site more because it’s easier to put a lot of different images up at the same time)

The FTC has had their employees actually go to seminars that teach that blogs, the internet, etc., is not “real journalism”. The utter disdain that these people feel for the average person cannot really be emphasized enough...

Methinks they (this admin.) want a CWII. The only problem with their wants, is that we have the training, armament, logistics, etc., and their sycophants don't.
I hope the liberals/socialists/democRATs reading this statement understand, if CWII happens, they (and their friends, families, etc.), will not survive.
I'm sorry, it will have to be that way...

Don't be sorry, not for one nanosecond. And you are absolutely correct. The Second American Revolution will end just like the First, with our liberties and freedoms secured from the boot of tyrants.

And after it's all over?

I'm going to make a special effort to take a big hairy dump right on top of wherever our enemies are buried.

And then I'll water the lawn to make sure everything comes up nice and green and environmentally pristine.
