Everybody has one–an elderly relative who has lost all sense of tact and decorum. The peerless Estelle Getty was the archetype of the embarrassing nutty older relative when she played Bea Arthur’s mom on the Golden Girls
Getty popped off with whatever happened to be on her mind at the moment. Her excuse was that in old age, the part of her brain that knew to keep certain thoughts to herself no longer functioned. When the talented Getty did it, we found it hilarious.
When Helen Thomas does it, we find it horrifying. Thomas, who has a history of criticizing Israel for its dogged insistence in its right to exist, has told the Jews to “get the hell out” of Gaza and go back to Germany and Poland.
The grand dame of left wing journalism is still employed.
Unlike Bea Arthur’s character on the Golden Girls, nobody in Thomas’ orbit has rushed forth to apologize and attempt to explain her outburst.
If appropriate meds don’t do the trick, it’s long past time for Thomas to head for Shady Pines.

The difference is Getty was a comedian, and Thomas is a racist.
There is a crucial and critical error in this report.
The report quotes her as saying Jews should get out of Gaza. She didn’t say that. She didn’t even say Jews should get out of the West Bank. By the way there are no longer Jews in Gaza.
She said Jews should get out of “Palestine”. And when she referred to Palestine she included the entire State of Israel. If she meant only the territories where Arabs live she would have said Jews get out and go to Tel Aviv.
Did wasn’t simply a pro-Palestinian- two States solution- position.
This was a call for genocide and the destruction of Israel. Period.
