An NYU journalism source speaks for critics of the FTC draft: The problem with this is that the FTC is trying to set an agenda here, that some sort of government intervention is necessary. It's a power grab by the FTC and it's also an example of one old power structure circling its wagons around another.

Nope...it’s not right.

But, given the climate in this admistration...it makes sense.

We the people of the United States don’t need our version of Pravda. It’s Not the job of the government to be bailing out lousey newspapers.

If the papers can’t make it on their own they should go out of business. The problem with newspapers is they are run by very liberal editors and reporters and the average American working stiff is tired of their bias.

Why not? They have already destroyed the 2nd Amendment.

The FTC was too late to bail out the buggy-whip industry, so now they want to bail out the news-rags.

Here’s an idea to save newspapers!

Let’s require a small tax on everything printed on paper. Newsprint would be exempt, of course, but all other printed items would be required to have an official stamp in one corner stating that the government tax had been paid. If it doesn’t have the tax stamp, it’s illegal.

Junk mail, utility bills, legal documents, cash register receipts, copy machine paper ... everything!

We can call it the Stamp Act. Yeah, that’s the (correctly stamped) ticket!

Then things will be just like they were in 1765 ... with the same seething anger toward an out-of-touch government that was justified then and is justified again.
