SEX workers have rallied in Sydney to demand an end to "whore-phobic" attitudes and greater protection under anti-discrimination laws.
Chanting "sex worker rights are human rights" and "no bad whores, just bad laws", dozens of protesters marched from the Opera House today in a bid to have their rights recognised.
Many carried red umbrellas, a symbol of the global movement, while others made statements with T-shirts reading "whore power" and "sluts unite".
"We are human beings, we are people, we do a job and we are continually vilified for that job," sex worker Julie Bates said, noting that little had changed in the way of community attitudes during her 30-year career.
"So whilst we remained silenced, today is a chance for us to speak to the community, so we have a voice.

Not as overt as the pay for play these women offer. A different market for the same thing.

I respectfully disagree with you. Whores are not paid for their affection. They are paid to go away.
I don’t know, but I think that I could get behind this effort.
Oh please. I’m getting pretty tired of this mainstreaming of immorality and pornography. I actually have family members who look down on me as a person because I personally don’t like porn and won’t watch it with my husband. A brother, who because I have morals, treats me with barely concealed contempt.
How have I “mainstreamed immorality” by observing that these people live short, wretched lives and spread that misery?
Often, men don't even have physical contact when they buy the time of a whore; they just want someone to listen to them. Likewise, women's biggest complaint is that men don't listen. Taken together, it's ironic and sad, but I think that intimacy is the problem more than lust.
Stumbled upon Bunny Ranch on HBO while channel surfing the other night.
Absolutely disgusting.
How can women live like this- and why is this filth on TV for all to see?
HBO is full of the vilest most disgusting stuff.
I wonder why ........?
Doncha know?
JULIE BATES: “I see sex workers generally as the unsung heroes of HIV. They were the ones that informed males in our society that the safe sex practice was essential in this day and age.”

Hi there
That’s cuz you live in a good place, Texas
I lived and worked in LA and amid the Hollywood crowd.
It is depressing to even remember the things these people will say over a dinner table or at a party when they think you (me) are one of them ...
You would have your stomach turned.
Can’t say more.
I’m whore-phobic. I hate politicians.
Of course I didn't mean affection in the sense of a tender love. Since it is in the plural, it means simply feeling or emotion--in this case the crude emotions of a quick sexual encounter at an agreed price.
Basically, with whores you’re the screw-ER, with politicians you’re the screw-EE.
Ok. Thanks.
That’s a pretty fair way to sum it up.
Sorry to be so pessimistic
Those whores should know that sluts do it for free.
