LIMA, Peru - A high-ranking Peruvian government official confirmed to NBC News Monday night that Joran van der Sloot confessed to the slaying of a 21-year-old Lima woman.

According to La Republica newspaper, he said that his anger exploded and he broke Stephany Flores' neck after she grabbed his laptop without his permission, and found out that he was involved in the disappearance of an American woman.

His family will probably send financial support to him... perhaps even enough to give him some sort of elevated status in prison there. Even so, it's bound to be hell on earth for him given his relatively privileged life thus far.

Looks like Peru’s goons beat something out of Joran all right, but it still has an odd smell. If Natalee had gotten a gawk at Joran’s murder video, do you think she would choose to (1) confront Joran personally about it? or (2) sneak away as quietly as possible and go to the police?

“broke Stephany Flores’ neck after she grabbed his laptop without his permission, and found out that he was involved in the disappearance of an American woman”

Can’t believe that he kept this on his laptop during international travel, he must be dummer than a sack full of windmills.
Anyway, I hope they got him and he has a long life behind bars without lubrication

Well I had heard that after his dad died, his family cut him off completely. His mom believes he is guilty of Natalie’s murder, however I do not have a source for any of this.

I had also wondered if his family did send him monies, how would other inmates react to that.

So, crime of passion and he is off the hook in several years?

That's the conjecture I've seen.

Manslaughter vs. Premeditated is 6-20 years vs 35 years from what I've read.

That sounds as if he thinks he provided some logical explanation for committing murder. Truly a psychopath, or some sort of head case.

Yep. Sociopaths will always claim that they are the true victims. Anybody who believes his justification will believe anything.

Those jails down there are full of men that don’t put up with rapists and such.

That is often exaggerated; jailbirds are a rowdy bunch themselves. But in this case there might be something to it, because he is a foreigner, and because the father of the murdered girl has enough pull to have *anything* done to the killer in the prison. Some say he will get 35 years; he may not survive even one year if a seemingly endless chain of horrific industrial accidents (all his own fault, of course) finally takes his life in a most unpleasant manner.

he’s claiming it was an accident. If true then he does deserve a little bit of a reduced sentence for that. But I don’t believe his story.

Yes, navyblue. They will give you one bowl of dirty rice per day prepared in an unsanitary kitchen.

You don't mean this.

Might have been nothing secret or important on the laptop. It was his and she used it without asking. Natalee Holloway may have laughed at him. These freaks become enraged by anything.

I’m thinking that perhaps Peruvian prison rice may not appear as appetizing as this particular rice.

Remember he had drugged her though, so her faculties were reduced.

How hard is it to get a confession in Peru ?

They practically write themselves. /s

That raises a question from the opposite side. Why would a sluggish, drugged Natalee be curious enough about what was on Joran’s laptop to go poking around on it?

10 gets you 100 that the Peruvian goons told Joran he could get off easier on a confession to a “crime of passion” (this holds true for a number of Romance and Latin American countries whose law is based on the Napoleonic Code). Rather than the cold, soulless thing it would have been seen as.

I am certain that his mother believes that, and I won't be surprised if plenty of Arubans don't blame Natalee Holloway for the murder of Stephany.
