Prop 14 is winning in a landslide, which makes all future Republican nominees moot as we will see 2 Democrats competing for all future statewide elections.

Don't feel too bad about this. Just think of the Primaries as the actual election. If a Republican cannot win it, consider it similar to not winning the actual election. The silver lining is that Republicans will now pretend to be Democrats.

The proposition itself might be unconstitutional.

I think Prop 14’s passage is the worst thing that’s happened to California in a long time. Why didn’t the GOP/conservatives spend more time/money campaigning against it? Most people had no idea what they were voting for....

It’s pretty depressing all around.

Prop 14 and Prop 15 (public funding for elections) are also both winning.
Too many Californians are brain dead, IMO

Treasurer’s race set: Lockyer vs. Walters

With all party primaries uncontested, the result in the treasurer’s primary was known weeks ago when candidates filed their papers: GOP Sen. Mimi Walters will face incumbent Democrat Bill Lockyer in November.

Per Twitter, AP also called Prop 14 a win (yes).

California voters approve revolutionary "open" primary

Disgruntled California voters have blown up their election system by approving Proposition 14, which tosses out the current political party-based primary system in all but presidential races.

The measure was far ahead in early returns, with about 60 percent of votes in favor and 40 against with more than 12 percent of precincts reported.

Backed strongly by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Proposition 14 called for a new "open" primary, in which all candidates for an office - except those in presidential primaries - appear on a ballot given to voters regardless of party registration.

Under the system - which Washington state has already adopted - the top two vote-getters who emerge from a primary square off in a general election, even if they are from the same political party.

(snip)

“Newport beach is a relatively liberal coastal community in Orange County California.”

Newport Beach is hardly “relatively” liberal. I am not surprised DeVore would win there, and several other areas in OC. In fact maybe OC overall.

OC is historically among the most conservative regions in the state.

“OC is historically among the most conservative regions in the state.”

It was, before it became an enclave of Mexico over the last 20 years.

I voted Fitz based on your input the other day (yesterday?)

I’m watching the results. Why on earth to the GOP field SIX candidates for AG?
Was this a planned “split the vote” maneuver to ensure Maldonado’s win? Crazy.

Thank you for that InsComm vote! My heart rate can't take it! I'm hoping the daily skewering of Vill-Liar by Jon and Ken in LA pay some dividends in the late returns from SoCal.

As for GuvLt, it is because the job doesn't do $#!t except fund raise and put out press releases and go to nice lunches. A nice place holder while you wait your turn.

So just think....in January we could very well have Governor Jerry Brown, Lt. Gov Gavin Newsome, and AG Kamila Harris. Bay Area politics will be in charge in Sacramento. Any better reasons not to move outta here?
