WASHINGTON Members of Congress lined up near a fire pit on the South Lawn on Tuesday to eat Northwest-style salmon while others chomped down on Midwest-style hot dogs.
It was all part of the White House's annual congressional picnic, and this year the event featured foods from regions across the country for a "Tastes of the States" theme.
President Barack Obama, standing next to first lady Michelle Obama, told lawmakers he wanted to thank them for their "incredible devotion to the country, regardless of party." As part of the event, every member of Congress is invited, along with their families.
Obama said the nation has seen a tough few years and "that's meant that Congress has had to do more on a whole range of issues." The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico means more pressure to work together and with the administration to dealing with the crisis, he said.

I think the Obamas deserve a party. It’s been so long since they’ve had one.
It’s good to be king.
Obama likes to party all the time
party all the tiiiiime
The peasants can eat dog food while we the Nobility enjoy the last of the nation’s seafood.

White House (picnic) serves up a tasty thanks to lawmakers...
Translation..
Taxpayers (picnic) serve up a tasty thanks to lawmakers..
Let them eat cake!

Chewie: "I'm so proud of America now that I can have concerts totaling 10 million dollars at our White Hut over the last year"
Geez, it’s tough looking at these people.
“Let’s MOOOOVE.”
The pics don’t look like a party where 535 folks, their spouses, and their children, showed up, does it?
All members of congress or just a select group of groupies?
LOL!
I would like to see the names of those that actually attended.
Nero our hero dines while Rome burns.
Who has the five o clock shadow?

"I know whose ass to kick."
Looks like an add out of the Sears catalog
So much for "Save the Salmon!" It's all about them and their cronies, and none about the rest of us.
(OTOH, I can't stand salmon. Chow down, folks, and make them extinct. / s )
I'm afraid I couldn't look and eat.
It might be more interesting to see who did NOT attend than who did attend. It is a annual function for Congressmen, but the story mentions mainly cabinet members.
Looks like Michelle Antionette wants to be first in line for the Maine lobster.
Yep. And we know whose a$$ to kick out.
Looking at the link in #4 I see good ole Scott Brown attending!
I see that dog still isn’t trained (and neither is his handler). They are NOT walking. BO is PULLING Obummer along the path and Obummer is PULLING Michelle. They are lucky that she didn’t trip and fall on her face.

Remarks by the President to Congress at picnic, as provided by the White House
THE PRESIDENT: Hello, everybody! (Applause.) Well, hows the food? (Cheers and applause.) We could not have a more beautiful day for this annual picnic, and we are just thrilled that all of you had a chance to get over. I know that folks were running a little bit late, many of you because of votes. But, you know, the fact of the matter is, is that we have had as tough a year and a half as America has seen in a couple of generations, and that’s meant that Congress has had to do more on a whole range of issues.
Right now obviously were looking at whats happening in the Gulf with deep concern, and that’s going to put more additional pressure on Congress to work with states and the administration to help deal with this tragedy and this crisis.
It is important, though, given the incredible sacrifices that so many of you have made and frankly, from my perspective, just as important are the sacrifices that your family makes — you being away, you missing family events — that every once in a while we have an opportunity to get together and for me to say thank you to you for your incredible devotion to the country, regardless of party, and for both Michelle and I to say to your families how grateful we are for your service, and hopefully to have a little bit of time for fun and for fellowship and to remind ourselves of whats so important in life.
So Im thrilled to see all the young people here who are here today. And we hope that you have a wonderful time. Band, you guys are great as always. (Applause.) Chefs, I think people are all voting with their mouths around here. (Applause.) I suspect theres not going to be a lot of leftovers.
And on behalf of Michelle and myself, we hope that you enjoy the evening, and we are grateful to all of you for being here. So thank you very much. (Applause.)
The dog is taking them for a walk. He can’t even manage the puppy dog.
Dont these pieces of crap ever work—Oh and by the way I think Michelle should add another bracelet to her wrist
And welcome to it.
There will be a charge, however...
Oh Noes! double camel toes!
I believe they’re on recess, aren’t they?
Just a few in town anyway.
Aww, they threw a party for themselves to tell each other how wonderful they are. Life is good in the Politburo.
Awwww Jeeez..

The event is pool-only, meaning there are just a handful of reporters on the lawn. From the pool report, a scene-setter:
It’s quite the shmoozefest.
Directly in front of your pool Louisiana Sen. David Vitter was sitting at one of the tables with what appear to be his three kids, sipping beverages.
Sen. Conrad wandered over to chat with Vitter. Both are in dress shirts, tie-less.
Sen. Scott Brown of Mass. walked across your poolers sight line momentarily, arm-in-arm with wife Gail Huff. Brown is in a navy blue polo shirt, tucked into khaki pants.
Also spotted: Rep. Henry Waxman, Calif., chit-chatting with an unidentified gentleman who’s back was to the pool; Rep. Gary Ackerman, New York, still in his suit, who gave a small wave in this direction; Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who sat down at the table with Brown and Huff.
Reggie Love walked by in basketball shorts and a towel, having been dunked several times in the picnic’s dunk tank, he reported.
Secretary Ray LaHood came up to chat with CBS WH correspondent Mark Knoller, also cordoned off behind the rope with your pooler.
MO or the dog?
