"The rig's on fire! I told you this was gonna happen!"

Tony Buzbee, a lawyer representing 15 rig workers and dozens of shrimpers, seafood restaurants, and dock workers, says he has obtained a three-page signed statement from a crew member on the boat that rescued the burning rig's workers. The sailor, who Buzbee refuses to name for fear of costing him his job, was on the ship's bridge when Deepwater Horizon installation manager Jimmy Harrell, a top employee of rig owner Transocean, was speaking with someone in Houston via satellite phone. Buzbee told Mother Jones that, according to this witness account, Harrell was screaming, "Are you f***ing happy? Are you f***ing happy? The rig's on fire! I told you this was gonna happen."

Whoever was on the other end of the line was apparently trying to calm Harrell down. "I am f***ing calm," he went on, according to Buzbee. "You realize the rig is burning?"

At that point, the boat's captain asked Harrell to leave the bridge. It wasn't clear whether Harrell had been talking to Transocean, BP, or someone else.

On Friday a spokesman for Transocean said he couldn't confirm or deny whether the conversation took place. He was unable to make Harrell available for an interview.

During hearings held late last month by the Coast Guard and the Minerals Management Service, Harrell denied any conflicts with his BP or Transocean bosses. He said that he did not feel pressured to rush the completion of the well, even though the rig had fallen behind schedule.

Douglas Brown, the chief mechanic on the Deepwater Horizon, said that on the morning of the day that the rig exploded Harrell had a "skirmish" over drilling procedures during a meeting with BP's "company man," well site leader Robert Kaluza.

From Mother Jones Magazine, which has the credibility of the Soviet Pravda, or Ted Turner’s CNN. Look at the source! Jeesh!

It’s gonna be quite the inquest. Books will be written, documentaries and movies will be made. It will make “The Caine Mutiny” look like a tea parlor drama.

Really, Mother Jones? Not a source I would believe if they said the sun came up every morning.

When billions of dollars are at stake witnesses will be bribed and paid off. Threatened too.

I don’t usually get my news from Mother Jones Magazine, but I think this story is true. I think that BP forced the well workers to speed things up and take shortcuts, to save a few days, and the result was that it blew up.

We’ve heard this story several times now. As you will note, the guy who said this now denies it. Of course he does. He doesn’t want to have BP, Obama, and the Chicago Mafia come down on him.

But I think it’s true. BP has a reputation as a company that takes dangerous shortcuts. And I think that’s exactly what they did. Some jackass from HQ told them, according to another account, “Do it my way, or else.” Now we’ve seen what the result of THAT was.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that Obama and BP are on opposite sides. Obama is in bed with BP, and just pretending to be angry with them. It’s one of the reasons why he has sat there and done nothing.

Many of them have already made sworn depos, I’m sure. So they will have perjury to think about.

The engineer who was on 60 Minutes comes to mind.

It was BP who was making the command decisions on that platform and it us BP’s fault that the they lost the well and murdered 11 men.

i like the women who said hubby was getting things in order....that suggests sabotage in my mind..

but I really think that folks will lie their butt off after they lose someone...simply because it doesn't matter at that point and survival (money) is most important.

Here’s the prob: this guy who is named and quoted would be covered under attorney privilege, so this attorney would be sued out of business unless this guy WANTED to get this quote out. So there could be an ulterior motive for this guy who is blaming his bosses and saying he predicted this, to get the quote into the “media” (Mother Jones).

This story has been going around since the first week of the spill. I’ve read it before without names attached. Interesting that the principal is now denying any conflict.

One of the first guys to jump of the platform when things blew, lives about 15 miles from me. Young guy in his mid-20’s. I’d love to pick his brain about what he knows, but he’s probably all lawyered up by now and won’t discuss it.

It had nothing to do with rushing to complete the job. The whole issue with BP concerns the "brown mud". Environmental crazoids and their running dog lackeys have been driving BP crazy with lawsuits and complaints to EPA about their having pumped up "brown mud" tainted with oil.

That's exactly what was going on at this site. BP pumped the "brown mud" out of the space being filled with concrete ~ before the concrete had hardened (and been tested) they removed the rest of the "brown mud" and replaced it with sea water.

The topic is so easy to find on the internet I can't imagine why no one has connected the dots.

The Environmental crazoids want BP to seal new oil wells without the use of "brown mud", or to get it out of the pipes before it contacts oil.

BP doesn't want to do that but some of those 700 EPA and OSHA violations involve use of "brown mud" in a manner not satisfying to the environmentalists.

Look for this name: "Chuck Hamel".

That'll get you started and all at once you will understand what BP's eyewitnesses saw, and what they were talking about. This is real stuff, not imputed intent.

BTW, using "brown mud" is the safe way to facilitate the sealing of a new well before production. It appears to have upset the workers to find their management, BP, trying to suck out the "brown mud" and replace it with seawater while the cement cured ~ which, of course, is the way the environmentalists and the union want it done.

I am absolutely amazed that workers on the site disagree with the union, but I am not at all amazed to find the union demanding or supporting procedures that make a job site less safe. I tell you, the unions involved in the oil industry are TOTALLY CORRUPT.
