WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is offering condolences to relatives of the 11 workers who were killed when an oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, causing the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.
Obama wrote to the families and invited them to visit the White House on Thursday.
Spokesman Robert Gibbs said Obama also wants to hear the families' thoughts on changes the government can make to ensure that future deepwater oil drilling is safe. Obama put a temporary halt to such drilling after the April 20 explosion off Louisiana's coast.

That struck me as odd when I first heard it and it still does.
The family members are now obviously experts on deepwater drilling safety, so don't worry everyone, everything is going to be alright thanks to our kenyan in chief.
The guy really is all hat and no cattle. He thinks that his magical presence, alone, will console them for the loss of their loved ones.
I believe this would be 23 days after James Carville raised the issue...

If one of my loved ones was on that rig, I wouldn’t want to meet this ying yang. What’ll it accomplish? Is he going to hand them money? Give them a free DVD of his greatest speeches? An i-pod? He’s an imposter, a black hole of nothingness, anti-american and a Marxist for gosh sakes.

In other words, he’s looking for a reason to back down on his idiotic drill halt, and he’ll counting on using the families for cover. Everybody who has any exposure to that clown is just a character in his little pageant, a production even the greenest of middle-school drama teachers would disown.

I cannot imagine the pain these folks have gone through...having lost a dad or husband or brother so many miles out, never seeing them again.

I, too, thought this was insensitive. Also, why over a month later? Photo op and headline! Disgusting using grieving families in this way. Zero is a zero!
The first safety tip should be,”Rig workers would be safer with a different president.”
I was going to say “what? no party? no vacation?” Must be a slow week in Washington.

My bet says that he will not enjoy the results of this far too late and now gratuitous experience.
And the second suggestion should be to ask Sarah Palin to head up a commission to oversee cleanup operations and government oversight on rig safety. She would do it for the good of the country. He would never ask her because everything is all about him no matter how much people suffer.
I would show up wearing a VOTE REPUBLICAN shirt and make sure all the cameras got a picture of it.
