I don’t see this ending badly. She has had the best training, and state of the art equipment. And she has the chutzpah to dare.
Just not something I would do. Bless her heart for it though!
In my original post, I asked (okay, sort of tangentially, but I did say it) why there wasn’t a chase boat or similar? I have no problem with her attempting the feat; I have a big problem with her being out there on the high seas ALL FREAKIN’ ALONE at the age of 16. A bit young to be so completely on her own in a dangerous environment. I don’t see why her parents did not arrange some sort of backup. That was just foolhardy, in my opinion.
As for 16 yo kids driving cars, well, yikes indeed. But at least there is help available most of the time. They get a flat tire or (heaven forbid) have an accident, there are police and parents and passers-by to try to help them. This poor girl is all alone. May God help her.
Good question. Maybe thousands of people can search for her boat by satellite.
Well, I agree that most are not mature enough to do this sort of thing, but I have known some 16-year-olds who are definitely capable of making a reasoned decision about taking this sort of risk.
There are people who are risk-takers. Our country would not have been discovered and settled had there not been risk-takers. The US would not have made it to the moon if it were not for risk-takers. And there is no holding back that sort of person; they have a drive to accomplish these activities that most of us would not consider sane behavior.
So, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.
