Hispanics in the US: A new generation

Meet Generation 1.5

They were brought to the US at a young age by the parents, first generation immigrants who often still have close ties to their home countries.

Campaigners want the legal limbo of young immigrants resolved

Younger brothers and sisters were born in America, second generation immigrants who enjoy the status of US citizens.

Not Generation 1.5. Despite having lived most of their lives in the US and speaking fluent English, many cannot legally work, vote or drive in most US states. They are subject to arrest and deportation just like any other undocumented migrant.

"They fear being deported but many of them don't know (anything) other than English, so they have no idea what awaits (them) in their countries of origin, said Ruben Rumbaut of the University of California in Irvine, who coined the Generation 1.5 term.

There are no official figures of how many undocumented children live in the US, but the Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 7% of all Hispanic children are unauthorised immigrants.

This suggest there are 1.1 million Latino children who are not US citizens. Children can attend primary and secondary school without being asked about their immigration status, but getting through higher education can be more difficult.

It is estimated that approximately 65,000 undocumented students - both Hispanic and non-Hispanic - graduate each year from high school.

In all but 11 states,

My God, why can't this author bring himself to call these people what they really are?

They are not citizens and they are not entitled to be here, but they are:

ILLEGAL ALIENS!

CRIMINAL TRESPASSERS

FOREIGN INVADERS

WETBACKS

WELFARE CHEATS

PARASITES

VIOLENT CRIMINALS

ALIENOS ILLEGALOS!!!

Find every last one who is here illegally and deport them.

And "brown is beautiful?" What kind if racist talk is this? The last thing our country needs is even MORE racists to bring divisions into people.

If someone can wear a "brown is beautiful" shirt, then a "whitey is beautiful" shirt should also be 100% acceptable.

I’m just guessing, but it might have something to do with her last name

Why don’t they go and be proud of their own country?

Since the BBC loves illegal aliens, the solution is simple. Load up the eastbound Virgin Air flights.

I kept looking for the part of the story that held the parents lack of respect for the law ruining their children’s lives.

The treatment of generation 1.5 and 2 should be equalized. They are all illegals. 2's citizenship was obtained by criminal acts and is thus fraudulent and must not continue to be recognized.

There is actually a very easy answer to this “problem” that requires the gummint do NOTHING (other than enforce THE LAW). The parents can take their kids home. It is that simple.

We need to deport or imprison ALL illegal aliens, including the so-called anchor babies, seal/secure the border and SHOOT anyone who tries to re-enter illegally.

As long as the government of Mexicorruption deliberately and often with malice violates Article 55 of The Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and Optional Protocols "[Consular members] also have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of [the receiving] State" I have no sympathy for generation 1.5's The Race, brownness (or any other color), and demands for a contrived citizenship -- if they forswear (repudiate) Mexicorruption and follow the existing rules --others have done it! -- then OK.

Mexicorruption is cognizant that countries have rules of behavior, I assume.

Unlike our OWN US Citizen children...these primary school children are allowed to start school without so much as a shot record or a required physical examination.

We're bending over backwards to accommodate them.

Keep in mind the invaders get SS#'s for each kid......then use the SS#'s as fake identities to cash in on US govt freebies.....and to vote multiple times.

Illegal Jose Madrigal, the Washington state rapist, had some 30 identities.

EACH FAKE IDENTITY COLLECTS US GOVT FREEEBIES,
--- AND AS EVERY DESPERATE DEMOCRAT KNOWS ---
EACH FAKE IDENTITY VOTES AND VOTES AND VOTES

========================================

RIDING THE US GRAVY TRAIN---THE SAGA OF PEDRO An illegal alien w/ wife and five children violates our borders. He gets a job mowing loans for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that low wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, so each year, he files an Income Tax Return to get "EITC---earned income credit" of up to $3,200 scot-free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent. He qualifies for food stamps and no deductible, no co-pay free health care. His children get free school breakfasts and lunches. The kids qualify for monthly SSI checks by faking ADD; the illegal and his wife get SSI by faking being aged, blind or disabled; SSI qualifies them for Medicare.

Plus illegals don't have to worry about pricey items like car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance, and they qualify for relief from high energy bills.

ALL OF THAT IS COLLECTED WITH JUST ONE IDENTITY Evidence shows illegals establish several identities with phony SS nos and fake documents (which these "poor immigrants" buy from document brokers for several thousand dollars).

DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR OBAMACARE It is presently against the law to refuse healthcare to illegals. Illegal aliens actually bump US citizens for healthcare. Mexico, the country that is the staging area for illegal invasions, has long-promoted America’s generous public health centers. Mexico operates Ventanillas de Salud---a Spanish-language program---in about 12 US cities that refers its nationals on US soil illegally---to clinics where they can get free medical care without being turned over to immigration authorities.”

CONTACT YOUR US REPS: Why is the US government providing detention centers for illegal invaders who violated our borders......facilities that are newer, modern, with better health care, including just about everything else that is better than what battle-scarred US servicemen are getting in Veterans hospitals? This must not be allowed to go forward.

FOR YOUR REFERENCE Obama Orders Dance Classes, Movie Nights, and Bingo for Illegal Detainees; ICE to make detention centers more humane
Houston Chronicle | June 8, 2010 | By SUSAN CARROLL

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are preparing to roll out a series of changes at several privately owned immigration detention centers, including relaxing some security measures for low-risk detainees and offering art classes, bingo and continental breakfast on the weekends.

The changes were welcomed by immigrant advocates who have been waiting for the Obama administration to deliver on a promise made in August to overhaul the nation's immigration detention system.

The 28 changes identified in the e-mail range from the superficial to the substantive. In addition to “softening the look of the facility” with hanging plants and offering fresh carrot sticks, ICE will allow for the “free movement” of low-risk detainees, expand visiting hours and provide unmonitored phone lines.

ICE officials said the changes are part of broader efforts to make the immigration detention system less penal and more humane. But the plans are prompting protests by ICE's union leaders, who say they will jeopardize the safety of agents, guards and detainees and increase the bottom line for taxpayers.

Tre Rebstock, president for Local 3332, the ICE union in Houston, likened the changes to creating “an all-inclusive resort” for immigration detainees. Other major changes include:

• Eliminating lockdowns and lights-out for low-risk detainees.

• Allowing visitors to stay as long as they like in a 12-hour period.

• Allowing low-risk detainees to wear their own clothing or other non-penal attire.

• Providing e-mail access and Internet-based free phone service.

Not about punishment "It's not about punishing people for a crime they committed.” Rosenberg said some of the changes, like new flower baskets, may seem small, but they will combine with the bigger changes to make a difference in the daily lives of detainees. “Taken together they will go some way to making this system less penal,” she said.
