President Barack Obama plans to use a meeting with BP executives this week to demand that they create and fund an escrow account and accept an independent panel to handle damage claims by individuals and businesses hurt by the Gulf disaster, a White House official told POLITICO. Obama wants BP to set aside funds to pay damage claims, to be “paid out under fair, efficient, and transparent procedures administered by an independent third-party panel established just for this purpose,” the official said. The announcement is the latest effort by the White House to be sure BP, not taxpayers,

Frankly, BP ought to take an adversarial posture. They gain nothing by playing nice with that thing in the Whitehouse.

Clever.

Obama made money from the payoffs,
from the investigatory waivers, from the dispersants,
and now from the withheld payouts.

Watch, it will be staffed by such impartial figures as Andy Stern, Van Jones, Richard Trumka, etc....

A colossal slush fund.

Obama was in bed with BP.
BP gave Obama more campaign cash (technically, the execs of BP, of course) than ANY other politician received.

Also, Rahm Emmanuel got free housing, through a BP advisor.

BP helped finance the Global Warming Hoax!

I do not like BP -—

BUT, they do have rights, and Obama is wrong to set up his own quasi-judicial system here.

Would there be dancing in the streets in England by the pensioners if obama landed 6 feet under?

Yup.

And there should be zero private meeting for President Zero. Record everything and post it online for all to see.

That would expose him as he tries to lie and twist what is said.

Meeting:

Ozero: Well, this is what I will propose...blah blah blag.

BP CEO: Sir, with all due respect, I have in my hand a copy of an original Kenyan Birth Certificate locked away in the Tower of London which shows you are an illegal president, so, do you want to continue with this charade?

Ozero: Comrade, how can we come to an equitable understanding in this matter?

I don't understand the whole scenario on the part of the USA...I believe BP is doing what it can...and the USA is doing zip to assist them.

Moratorium on drilling?? Just plain ignorant.

This is the same pair that sprang the Lockerbie bomber.

What a novel way to:
Loot a multinational corporation
Ensure your lackeys “get theirs” (Unions as well)
Skim billions for whatever reason you want

and finally
Ensure the real people who lost their livelihood get screwed by a tidal wave of fraudulent claims. And as in the case of the Exxon Valdez, count on an army of lawyers descending as a plague of locusts over this whole mess.

Surely BP has liability insurance through Lloyds of London, or some such, with rates amd coverage based on rules and caps in place at the time of policy issue.
