Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) on Monday apologized for behaving aggressively during a confrontation on the street with a young man who claimed to be a student.
"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved," he said in a statement released by his office.
A video of the incident, in which Etheridge can be seen swatting at a camera and grabbing the young man by the coat collar, appeared online Monday morning.
"Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina," Etheridge said, "I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."

At least this one has the sense to apologize without using some weasel phrase like “if anyone was offended.”
He is veritable Einstein compared to most of them.
Donate to his opponent:
“with a young man who claimed to be a student.”
They just can’t help themselves, can they. He “claimed” to be a student. Like maybe he’s one of those subversive FReeper types who think they have a right to talk to their Congresscritter occasionally...
Like an appology is supposed to make us all over look that fact you are a complete asshole.
I apologize. I should NOT have had those last three Bourbons. They tasted great and I felt three sheets to the wind, but in hindsight I’ve probably blown my career (such as it was) right out my ass! Thank you.
He’s really sorry for only ONE thing...that he was taped and he got caught. Everything else is BS.
Pretty sincere apology. Can’t ask for much more than that.
"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved,"
I'm going to try not to start drinking til noon from now on.
"Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina," Etheridge said, "I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect.
Throughout all these years guzzling swill at the public trough, I've tried not to let my true colors show.
No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."
Nevermind that I hate my constituents, and people in general, except for one or two local hookers and a few bartenders here and there, I will try to be nice if I absolutely must confront the lower orders.
I ask for more!
I want him lawyered up, ansering questions like a weasel and his wife having to repair to the islands to get away from the press. I want him in court!!
BUt that’s just me and I am a mean girl.
I'm holding out for jail time for battery.
He and Barbara Boxer must do lunch together.
“No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response.”
Translation: the guys who questioned me are intrusive and partisan and are ultimately at fault.
Sigh. He hasn’t quite mastered the apology has he?
What he should do is offer to let the kid do a proper interview in his office or at a good restaurant If you are going to eat crow, then do it right.
See post #18.
Nothing truly sincere in this apology.
Hey, would the MEDIA be interested if a REPUBLICAN congressman assaulted a student??????
"Who are you, boy? Don't you know how good the liquor is when you're a Congressman?"
Rat bastard commie pig! I hope & pray that both victims (including the camera man) files assult charges against this commie pig.
Is she a lush? I mean, I must say, if I were a Congressman, I’d be a lush too. Why not? Hell, I’d be drinking beer for breakfast. I’d have a flask in my jacket. I’d be smoking doobies in the cloak room.
"I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect."
The question posed was viewpoint neutral.
"No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response..."
There was nothing intrusive or partisan about the students actions. They were polite and well within their rights.
I can. I'd like a conviction for Assault and Battery.
You're kidding, right? If this was a Republican, they'd be demanding his resignation right now. And the Republican would be hammered relentlessly by the press, the liberal elite and the Hollywood establishment. The video would be playing constantly on the media, 24/7, on TMZ--everywhere, until his reputation was destroyed. The lawyers would have served him papers in a lawsuit, before EOB today, and the kid would be lauded as some kind of hero, instead of being treated like some kind of pariah. So, no, I'm expecting much, much more from this POS "Public Servant" who would try to man-handle and bully a kid for asking a simple, honest question.

If those kids hadn't suggested that Styx had the greatest album in 1978, they wouldn't have had such a violent response.
It would be fun to see a well done compilation of all of these Democrats disrespecting people...Reid saying tourists stink, Boxer demanding to be called “Senator”,etc.etc.The subtitle would be something like, “the party who claims to be for the common man/working people...etc.” One such video would pretty much cover all of the races in the various states and would be irresistible to watch.
Could be a shape shifting militia member
No, they cannot. We have liberal First Selectwoman. She couldn't help but trash the U.S. for the Japanese interment camps while giving the Memorial Day address to our town.
She told us about the fact that they called them "relocation" camps instead of the "interment" camps because that was nicer. Her father was in one of those camps and he volunteered to fight for the U.S. Still she had to get her shot in.
If anyone has updates on the charges if any, please update us.
Also, noteworthy, but not shocking, CNN doesn’t cover this tree falling in the woods; to them it didn’t make a sound...no sign of it on their unbiased website.
He's only sorry he got caught on camera and it made the 'net. I, too, hope the young man presses charges. At any rate, we can only hope that more Dems follow Etheridge's example and give us more insights into what NOT to aspire to.

LOL.. You nailed it!
CNN: think, Ted Turner, Founder.
Ted Turner: think, Jane Fonda, Wife
Jane Fonda: think, AKA Hanoi Jane
What don’t you understand about CNN’s liberal views?
He needs to be CHARGED for ASSAULT!! PRESS CHARGES!!!
Yes, the student should press charges.
Etheridge did not grab the student “by the coat collar.” He grabbed him by the neck, more than once IIRC, and yanked me over to him as if he might put him in a neck hold.
Etheridge’s conduct is a crime and should be treated as such.
Too bad no one among the Dems put the question to Obama, “WHO ARE YOU?”
From a Congressman who claimed to represent the views of the people of NC-2.
“Behaving aggressively”
eh... no it was assault.
“People with all viewpoints”?
All the guy did was ask him whether he agreed with the Obama agenda. How is that expressing a viewpoint?
And, by the way, Rep. Etheridge: DO YOU AGREE WITH THE OBAMA AGENDA?
This imperious asswipe should be in jail for what he did.
The common Joe on the street would be.
is this yutz in a competitive district by any chance?
He needs to take lessons from the Master of Apologies, Obambi.
I love this guy. Who are you? Who are you? Dammit, where’s my highball? What the hell? Where am I? Come here sonny, you little..lol. That guy’s a riot. I want to meet him.
Congressman Etheridge did not merely "behave aggressively". "Behaving aggressively" covers everything from cold-blooded murder by a serial killer to a wife screaming at her husband that he left the toilet seat up.
Etheridge met the legal definition of simple assault. That happens to be a crime.
