Ever wonder what happened to the "Freedom to Farm Law"?

1996: Congress changes course in farm policy with the passage of the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act—the “Freedom to Farm” law. The law is designed to allow farmers greater planting flexibility and better align producer decisions with market supply and demand. But Congress reneges on reform, and passes large supplemental farm subsidy bills four years in a row beginning in 1998. When the 1996 law was passed, subsidies were expected to cost $47 billion over 1996 to 2002, but they ended up costing $121 billion. (cato)

All those "independent, strong, self sufficient" farmers (and Archer-Daniels-Midland and ConAgra) banded together to "get ours" from the complacent prostitutes in Congress.

God Save America.

November has to change our Congress. There’s no getting around it if the people want to bring back this country. Right now, I’m beginning to think that Congress and, especially, the Oval office is having a hard time wiping their own butts. When a new Congress is in place, they will have to look at all spending programs this Administration and Congress have put in place.

This President has put in the minds of the people that it will be a cold day in hell before people ever put another black in the oval office. He is the worst thing that could have happened to the blacks in this country.

Although Cato is correct on this...the problem is that Cato will never admit the real reason why the farm subsidies have exploded over the years: Free Trade Globalism....which Cato supports

The problem is that Liberal Free Trade Globalism does not work. To keep convincing the ignorant that it “works”...you have to subsidize it. The farm spending bills take your tax dollars and gives them to agri-companies....so they can ship their product and sell it overseas....to nations that cannot afford the cost of the food in the first place

All while this goes on....Communist China dumps cheap agri-goods on the US...which means that the American agri-producers cannot compete with Communist Chinese ag products. So...more of your tax dollars goes to agri-business

Groups like Cato are the part of the problem....they whine about subsidies....but the only way that Liberal Free Trade Globalism can break even is to subsidize. In reality, Cato and other groups support subsidies because they support the same Liberal Free Trade Globalist policies that those involved with the subsidies

End Liberal Free Trade Globalism...and you end subsidies.
