This “teacher” apparently talks about her political views all the time. Now she does this. What scum. And of course she dresses it up as a “teaching moment” and teaching the students about “democracy.” These students were way too kind in their responses. They should have said “F-U. Who do you think defends you, you scatter-brained b__ch?” Yet this woman will go on teaching year after year, using class time to bray about her political views instead of teaching.
To: i88schwartz
Those teachers should be fired....The do not have a first amendment right to share their views during an official school function. Entirely inappropiate, and I would have to question whether they have enough good judgment and temperament to even be in charge of children in the first place.

The fact that, regardless of how distasteful her opinion is, it’s protected speech. By what right does anyone get to decide what she can and can’t say?
Granted, she could’ve picked a better time to do it, but that’s a matter for the school to decide.

At a senior assembly?
what, no respect for, in her mind. a minority decision to enlist in the military?
This woman is too stupid to be a teacher.
And let’s be hinest—it was not dissent—it was all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Had to look up the locale - Massachusetts. It’s encouraging that the state was actually having an assembly to honor those students in the first place. The tide is turning.

Imagine some teacher at graduation holding up "stop abortion" sign:

It would be equally inappropriate - and the principal would fire, and escort such a person out of the assembly. But, on this one...he hasn't decided what to do.

Not a d****d thing wrong with it, in my opinion. And they can fire her afterward, for good measure.

Both I and my children have been in classes where the teachers carriy on about their politics, deriding people who have a different point of view. That’s not about opening a dialogue , and it should not be “protected free speech, “ any more than personal religious expressions are, and you know how those are treated in public school.

Too bad I'm too old to be one of her students. I sent several teachers out of the classroom crying during my HS career.
First thing I'd do is start holding up protest signs during class. Air horn when she tries to talk. Hang a devil tail on her rear end when she's not looking. Coughing fits during lectures. Sending that clown out of the room crying would be a piece of cake.

The fact that, regardless of how distasteful her opinion is, its protected speech. By what right does anyone get to decide what she can and cant say? If one of the students had begun a prayer to Jesus, the school would have cut the student off. Because the government has decided that it can decide what people can and cannot say.

See the dark line immediately under each eye? That's typical of a certain class of recreational crystal meth user.
Her inability to focus her thinking (so that she avoids needlessly insulting people who've done her no harm) could be symptomatic.
Her dates should always "be prepared" around this chick anyway. No idea what she might've picked up.

I went to school in the 50’s and I have to admit my class was pretty rough, but she wouldnt have lasted ten minutes in with my fellow students. We would have rode her out of class on a rail.I must admit that we werent real impressed with teachers who didnt cut the mustard.

No, it's not. She is an employee, and was 'working' during an official school function. In that setting, she has no free speech rights.
By what right does anyone get to decide what she can and cant say?
Under conditions of her employment, the principal and the school board that employs her has the right to decide what she can and can't say during work hours.

She is a freak. The students entering the military should have ******************** until she plead for mercy. Just what is wrong with these asshat LIBs? At a minimum someone should have hit her with her sign. I can only hope she gets RIF’d. What an inappropriate loser.

If schools allow Christians to pray, does that not mean they have to allow time for Muslims to pray? For Bhuddists? Hindus? For who knows how many different religious beliefs inhabit them?
That is the purpose for seperation of church and state, to avoid discrimination.

I have not seen it mentioned here yet. If I missed it I apologize. No one has said anything about what the principal said. he said that what she did was best suited for a classroom. NO!! What she did was best suited NOT IN School. Her political views have no place in the gym or in the classroom. Her job is to teach her subject in a way that causes children to learn and to use critical thinking.
So the problem is deeper then the teacher. The fact the principal thinks it would be ok for her to preach a political position in the classroom shows how ingrained this kind of thinking is. His reply should have been that this kind of protesting in not acceptable anywhere or by any employee at the school.

Guys, I’m not siding with this woman and I’m not defending her actions as moral. I’m defending the indisputable fact of liberty: that if one man loses his freedom, even over something I might find immoral, it means the loss of freedom for all men because it establishes the standard that liberty is open to interpretation.

One time that I was proud of my otherwise liberal colleagues was after the commencement address at our high school graduation was given by an actor, working in television in Manhattan who was known by the principal, who managed to take a few shots at the war and the military in the middle of an incredibly dull and tedious speech. My colleagues were upset because quite a few of the graduates were heading into the services, for some of them, it's their ticket out of the previous lives, for others, it's what their fathers did (or still do).
Time and a place, folks. Time and a place.
