LAT: Successful elsewhere, 'tea party' fails to find traction in California
LA Times ^ | 6/14/10 | Maeve Reston

At the election night party of "tea party" favorite Chuck DeVore in Tustin, Carole Mullner and her daughter Stephanie Perez were among the first to arrive. Outfitted in red T-shirts branding them as "insurgents" for DeVore, they enjoyed a rare moment of calm after months of campaigning for the Republican Senate candidate.

Mullner, an artist and member of the West Covina Tea Partiers, set aside her work in January to hunt down volunteers and raise money as DeVore's "ambassador" for the cities along the 210 Freeway. Perez, a 31-year-old member of the Chino Hills Tea Party, served in that same role in the Inland Empire.

As they waited for results, both women were candid about their distrust of the night's eventual Republican winners, Senate nominee Carly Fiorina and gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman.

They wanted to know: How did Fiorina get all those endorsements from anti-abortion groups, without any record to speak of? Could she recite passages of the Constitution, as DeVore can? Did she really need to keep her hair that short or was she eyeing a "sympathy vote" after her fight with breast cancer? And with all that baggage from her time as chief executive at Hewlett-Packard, why wasn't it obvious to other voters that Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer would "rip her up"?

"Nobody will work for her," Mullner said when asked whether her fellow tea partiers would fall in line behind Fiorina. She predicted that many would also watch the governor's race from the sidelines. Earlier that day, Mullner said, she had voted for conservative Larry Naritelli for governor to send a signal to Whitman and Steve Poizner that her vote was for "none of the above."

Here in Calif. we elect the closest to a Conservative.
There are more registered Democrats than REpublicnas here,

The major population areas in Calif. are Far Left to Liberal except San Diego which is somewhat half and half
(also haveing 3 Conservative Republican Reps and 2 Liberal Democrat Reps.
There are millions of Mexicans who are legal and can vote
in Calif.
There are milions of residents here from other states and countries who can vote.

California is not one of the several homogenous states many posters live in and think all states can do what theirs do.

There is little, if any, evidence that the People in CA (or IL. my state) are ready to vote for someone who would do this. Illinois is just as bankrupt.

This is a pretty obvious hit piece by the LA Slimes. It seeks to create doubt and distrust among opposition to the Messiah. Good luck with that, cretins.

We’re movin’ on up,

On the West side,

Amen. Imagine a candidate who stands up and says that they have a plan to save the state using the only option left... U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Not “making it” in ONLY one state is an unqualified success - Tea Party rules...

California is stuck on a sandbar and it'll take more than just conservatives getting out to get it un-stuck. If these ladies can convince some on the left to lend a hand, good. But this may come at a cost to their 'credentials'.

Every liberal I talk to bleats the same talking points fed to them by the media and White House. I counter that by telling them they should give Mark Levin a listen sometime (and give them the station and time to listen- Sacramento, 560AM, 3:00-6:00PM).

Sooner or later, the message that government can't solve our problems (Obama offering many recent examples) has to sink in. Pick a program or pick a state or a city (run by democrats) and observe the impending bankruptcy. Ideas have consequences, as do elections.

I don't know to what extent democrats in this state (CA) belong to the radical, hate America fringe, but suspect most are just lazy enough to go-along-to-get-along in a politically correct fashion and go-with-the-flow (like fish in a school) to avoid predation. Cowards, who'd rather not pick a fight if it threatens their mealticket.

Well, mealtickets are going to be on the cutting board as are a lot of other perks enjoyed by public employees/retirees very soon. What remains to be seen is if these women candidates can convince some seated in the Golden Cadillac and Golden Parachute aisles to vacate their spots in the interest of "others" to raise us off the sandbar. Let the 'communitarianism' begin. Service with Concern, baby. Do it for the Public Good, y'all. And, don't forget- doing it "for the children". :^)

California hasn’t produced a competent conservative since Ronald Reagan.

What about George Deukmejian? The former governor would have made a fine senator or even President had he had any national ambitions.
